I have a data DVD i haven't used in a while that contains some old family photos from a previous computer.
I put it in to copy them today and it worked fine but as i flicked through the pictures the PC stalled and then was not responding due to explorer reading the disc.

After a restart i put the disc back in and now windows cannot even identify it. Any program that tries to utilize the CD drive while the disc is in just stops responding.

I am currently trying THIS and although it hasn't stalled it hasn't found any media for about 20minutes now.

I could really do with recovering these pictures but i am afraid the disc is very corrupt =/ Is there any way to just read the data and extract it?
Windows just stalls trying to identify it. :(

Thanks in advance!

Try using a linux os such as ubuntu etc and see..had some jobs where they have been able to read when windows cant.

Badcopy pro has worked for me in the past esp for dogey disks

Silly question but have you tried a different dvd drive? just that you said it was reading fine then stopped and now wont read at all....could be the drive.

good luck

Thanks.

I will try both of these software first and if i have no joy will try and get hold of a Linux (or make one :) )

I think its the disc as the drive is reading everything else ok. There is no marks on the disc either.

I hadn't started copying, I was just flicking through the pictures and rotated one, when i went to the next picture it tried to save the previous one but i got the common error "Windows Photo Viewer can’t save the changes to this picture because there’s a problem with the picture’s file properties" I find this on a few pictures imported from an iPhones.

Thanks again.
