Corrupt Graphics ?

Hi chaps,

I'm sure someone will know the answer to this......:)

I've just RMA'd a HIS 4850 Radeon graphics card because i had a lot of corruption on the graphics using the latest 8.12 drivers. (Elongated polygons dragging all over the screen!)

I thought this was gonna be down to faulty graphics memory as i've read on here.....but obviously not as i've just had a reply from OC saying the card is fine after they tested it

So my question is what could be causing this?

Well i got the card back from OC. Just re installed it and it still the same. It also used to do it when i had 8.11 drivers installed so its not 8.12 specific.

Its running under win xp with a 420w power supply. Is that powerful enough?
I've only got hard drive connected and graphics card connected. (Disconnected others drives to try and cut down on power usage to see if it made any difference)

Would it be down to the motherboard only being 4X pci-e?

Temps are only high 40s / low 50s so don't think its getting too hot.

Also it does this all the time. As soon as i start playing. So its not like it gradually gets worse as it gets hotter.

OK so i thought i'd do my own stress test.

I ran Furmark v1.5 for 20 mins with no problems. This was set at 1680X1050 and with 4X MSAA. Now this hairy doughnut image is meant to look soft/slightly out of focus & some of the red veins are meant to split into two and then go back right? Max temp reported was 73°c.

I also had Rivatuner running. Max temp reported was 70°c

I also had GPU-Z running. Max temp reported was 63°c

Yiiiipppppeeeeeeeeeeeeee :)

Sorted the problem. :)

It turns out some asrock motherboards don't get on too well with newer ati cards.

After making sure i had the latest bios i still had corrupt graphics in certain games.

The answer was to disable pci-e downstream in the bios and all problems (so far) have gone away.
