I wanted to copy some files over from my dad's Vista laptop to my mum's XP PC, so used his usb drive. Used the 'remove device' thing as I always do, plugged it into a port at the back of the PC, and nothing happened. After a minute or so I removed it, plugged it into a different port, and it installed the drivers fine. But... all the data on it was junk. Plugged it back into my dad's laptop, the same port as I copied over the data from, and it searched for and installed drivers, and revealed junk.

Finally plugged it into my 7 laptop, it was identified as a USB mass storage device, but driver installation failed. Removed and put back in the same port, identified as a USBest USB2FlashStorage USB Device and drivers installed.

I'm gussing the XP machine somehow corrupted the data on it? Any chance of getting it back? There's nothing mega important on there, just some CAD drawings of things my dad had done, but I'm not sure if there's copies elsewhere, or if they'll be up to date.

Whats the manufacture of the usb drive is it an old stick?

could also have a virus on it
