Corrupted windows- extracting data without taking out HDD

I can't get into windows.
And I can't take out the hard drive to connect to another PC.

So what solutions are there to get the data onto say a USB Hard disk?

Use a Linux live cd then burn your files to cd/dvd or transfer to an usb external hd .

Any specific linux live cd you'd recommend for a person who's never used linux

if its an option may be easier to install windows to a different directory... - as long as you dont tell it to format the drive it will not loose any data

boot up from the windows CD, repair windows? no need to reinstall/move stuff, just fix the install

windows was messing up anyway so definitely need a new install.
windows in a different directory would've worked i suppose. probably taken a long time.

But anyway a google of "linux live CD", I found one called slax and its doing the job perfectly. thanks

Slax is my No. 1 Preferred Choice. And if Slax doesn't work I use Knoppix.
