Corrupted Word Document

Hey guys, I've got a very important word document (originally written in open office) saved as a MS 1997-2003 .doc. But for some reason when I now try and open it in both MS2007 and OpenOffice, all I get is pages of # symbols. I've got other documents saved at the same time and in the same style, but they open fine. Is there anything I can do, any idea why it would do this?

When you go to open, then select the file, instead of clicking the 'open' button click the arrow next to it and choose 'open and repair'. I'd save a copy to mess around with though just in case you make it worse.

Ok I've found the Open & Repair option, but it's not worked. Now it's just blank instead of lots of #'s!

It should definitely be there.

Try opening it in notepad.
