A few months ago, windows started coming up with "file is corrupt" to pretty much everything I tried to install, and I even had difficulty re-installing xp, as random errors would halt the process. I suspected a faulty hard drive, so replaced it, and all was well for about 2 months. Now, the same thing is happening. I have 2x 512mb of crucial ballistix pc4000 ram, and decided to run memtest. Instantly, loads of errors came up, I have tried both sticks separatley, in different slots, at different voltages and timings, but the same thing happens.

Could it be the memory causing these kinds of errors?

If your getting memtest errors,it's RMA time i'm afraid.ballistix has a high failure rate.Had loads of problems with mine over the last year.5 kits in total  Got rid of them now, thank god :D

Crucial are very good at RMA's,usually only takes a couple of days
