Hi all,
Came home from work last night to find the mother-in-laws 2005 1.2 sxi corsa parked outside the house. Turns out she had been for a visit but the car wouldn't start when she tried it.
Tried to start it this afternoon and it just made a machine gun sound, quick google confirmed that it's likely a flat battery. Checked engine bay and discovered you can't take the battery out without removing bits of plastic from under the window. Not knowing how to get these bits out I pushed the car up the drive, removed the leads and connected the charger directly to the battery. So I am charging battery while its disconnected.
Just been out, fully charged, started first time. Sat there for 30 seconds and noticed the engine start to chug slightly from 800-1000 revs as it idled. Turned it off and back on again, same thing.
Took it for a spin down the road and the car will not accelerate over 1500rpm or 10mph no matter what gear you use. I then notice a light on the dash. The control indicator for engine electronics. doesn't sound good.
Handbook says its either an engine or transmission electronics failure and is now running in emergency mode.
Any one any ideas of things I should look at before we haul it off to the garage on monday? Or just leave it to the garage? Could it be a result of charging damaging the battery and messing something else up?
