Corsa - Speedometer needle problem

Hi guys, my girlfriend is having problems with her speedometer, when cruising along the motorway, it will randomly drop to 0mph, it's a irregular occurrence and has no specific requirement to bring out the fault.

I think this could be related to the battery as this happened when my Duc had a duff battery.

Any ideas?

^^^What he said. Age of the car depends on how the speedo is driven ie cable or electric

If it's suddenly dropping to zero and then returning to normal I would wager electronic rather than mechanical speedo.
