Hey guys,

Here is the situation

I was out last night and upon returning home I got out my car to open my garage, got back in my car within seconds and tried to start my car and nothing except a clicking sound. Tried to jump the car and still nothing was barely turning over.

Also my key fob will no longer lock the car after this incident. I am lead to believe it could be the battery or the starter motor.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

If you tried to jump it and had the same problem, I'd suspect a borked starter motor.

Unless of course, you suck with jump leads ;)

Bit puzzled by the key fob thingy mind you....,

battery +1, if you have crappy jump leads or your battery is proper knackered you wont be able to jump start, put a voltmeter across battery should be about 12.9v, less than that and its not healthy. use a battery charger if you have one, clicking sound is your starter motor trying to turn but not having enough power.

I've started a fair few cars over the years that didn't even have a battery fitted, just clipped the jump leads to the positive & negative directly....

In other words, it should jump start even with a duff battery I'd have thought.

Dad's Astra wouldn't start even with jump leads. Was a duff battery.

I suspect this car would start in that manner, but having the battery connected could cause enough of a drain to drop the voltage. I've seen it before where a battery was so knackered the car wouldn't even jump start

As people as have posted, your battery is scrap and the jump leads you are using are junk.

Thanks for the input guys!

Had it checked today and it is the battery. Managed to get it started in the end. Had the leads hooked up for a while longer before firing up the engine and it worked so just gotta replace the battery now!

A car will start without a battery as long as it has a constant good voltage, (petrol) an old mechanical diesel will start and then run without any power input at all, if you have a bad battery it will drain out most of the current coming in from the jump leads so the car probably wont start or barely turn over
