Weekend project - replaced my Corsair H100i with a custom loop using XSPC RX240, EK Supremacy Evo Elite block and EK X-Res 100 with D5 Vario pump, cooling a 5820K on EVGA X99 Micro 2 board @4.2Ghz :)

Took a wee bit of work with my trusted Dremel to accommodate the RX240!

well.....so far disappointing. I'm not getting much better than the H100i which is really surprising me as the rad is twice as thick. Idling around 40c, Load using Intel Burn test still hitting 80c. Either there's too much heat to dump in a case this small, or I need to fine tune the voltages / OC a bit.

yes - fans pushing cool air from outside the case through the radiator. I'm baffled as the RX240 should be great at cooling a single CPU in the loop.

Those temps seem high, thought you would have better than that with such a large radiator and cold air from outside the case. Are your fans maxed out at those temps? What voltage are you using for the OC? Do you have anything other than Arctic Silver to use? I'm sure that needs curing time.

Fans at 1900 RPM (max), CPU voltage reported at 1.26 at 4.2Ghz.
Am trying to bleed air out the loop again in case that is the cause, set D5 pump speed to 5 ( from normal 3), shorted PSU and am tilting case.

Did you manage to get all the air out and bleed the loop? Have temps improved?

I haven't had time to bleed the loop yet, I cranked the pump up to 5 and left for a few hrs after tilting the case in all directions and even leaving it upside down for a bit. Was hoping this would move any air bubbles out of the loop into the res.
CPU Cores now register 32-34c at idle (CPU package around 37/38c). Ran AIDA64 for 2 hrs, max temp on cores still reached 80c.
