Corsair 900D Issues

I bought the 900D around six months ago to house a dual radiator and my watercooled PC

I’ve now decided to sell it and purchase the Caseland SMA8 and these are my reasons (for anyone considering the 900D)

The quality of the case is relatively poor given the high price tag. It’s easily misshaped when you are tipping the case back to front and side to side when bleeding your system. You can tell when it’s been bent slightly out of shape, as the side bay door on the bottom window side won’t close properly and is misaligned

The plastic hard drive trays are very poor quality and literally will fall apart in your hand, and you have to put the pin back through and place carefully in the drive bay

SSDs are no problem, but normal HDDs (even Green ones) rattle like crazy and produce a very noticeable audible hum and vibration, which is sometimes so bad we can hear it from our living room (PC in conservatory). The hard drive is fitted correctly, and slid in all the way.

Another issue with it being slightly misshapen, is that the side window panel won’t quite close properly.

I also found the space around the back of the motherboard tray inadequate for multiple cable extensions, something that had been highlighted on other youtube reviews of the case – the SMA8 has tons of room from what I have seen.

Top radiator mount cannot properly fit an Alphacool Monsta 80mm radiator with a single fan, it’s so tight on my rampage extreme iv CPU power connector, that it’s damaged the cable – I would say a 60mm should be OK

All in all, not at all impressed for a £300 case – but it’s probably OK for a standard air cooled PC where it’s not going to be getting moved or tipped from side to side to bleed etc

I was starting to find my 750D coming apart like this, even after changing a few parts of it and trying to tighten it all up. It also felt a bit 'tinny' compared to what I have now, which makes me wonder what makes the 750D/900D so popular at their price?

I want massively impressed with the 900D after I got it. but its a lot cheaper than an SMA8!

I have toyed over and over with a Caselabs and I am gradually getting there with more and more builds appearing in my "wish list". Its just such a shame they don't have a good UK retailer.

you're right about the cable management space behind the tray. If they had made the case just 4mm wider it would have made a massive difference. The biggest issue for me was the decision to block direct access to the PCI riser screws. whoever chose that design should be out of a job.

That being said I have managed to get 2x480's plus a 240 in this case without too much hassle and its quiet so overall it does deliver on what it says. shame about its flaws though.

I was disappointed with my 900D as well, just generally rattly and noisy. Ended up back using a TJ07 again.
In general some of the latest cases ive used/seen do feel a bit cheaply built. I love my current enthoo primo, but it does creak and rattle a bit when the system is first turned on. Mainly where the metal and plastic parts meet. Eventually settles down. Never had such issues with my previous shinobi xl or Lian Li A70f. The former was quite a heavy steel case, the latter being all aluminium unlike the primo which uses a lot of plastic.

I was looking at the 900d but luckily went for the Phanteks Enthoo primo believe me this case is a tank ive seriously abused it and its still looks like new

I have a TJ07 and have been wanting to try something different for years mainly so I can run more than a quad rad without modding it. The only case I think I might be happy with is the Enthoo Primo but I have read posts like Settlers of creaking/rattling which kinda puts me off as I hate any sort of noise from the pc as I don't get any of this with the TJ07. :(

Its a shame Silverstone messed up the successor to the TJ07 the TJ11 as that would have been ideal.

The Phanteks Project 91 looks interesting but I haven't seen any more info since CES.

Somewhatdamaged - Nice write up and warning. I have to say I like the layout of the 900D but I have read so much bad feed back on build quality it has put me off. Shame as its ideal for big loops.

i have had the 900D since the release and not had any problems with it. bneen watercooled aswell with 4 rads.

But i do agree some parts of it could be better quality

Primo owner here as well and I totally agree about the noise as it gets warmed up! As well as cooling down! I considered a 900d but it was just too big for me - admittedly I hadn't actually seen the size of the Primo till it turned up :p previously I've had a 800d and that was solid but not large enough and a Switch 810 which was alright but just felt a bit cheap. And I went for the white one which I quickly got bored of. It currently lives unloved in one of my parents wardrobes :D

Having read quite a bit about cases recently - it does seem maybe some manufacturers standards are slipping. Quite a few Primo owners with issues as well as corsair. They in particular have a very strong following and I suppose get away with lower quality control maybe.

They're a bit annoying but thankfully don't last long. On my case it seems to come from the front panel. Along the part where the lcd strip is housed.

How long would you say it lasts for and does it only happen at first use and cool down after the pic is switched off.

ie it doesn't happen when gaming then going to desktop and temps return to normal usage temps.

Only seems to be when first switched on. Lasts around five minutes or so. Sometimes it will creak a bit after shutting down too. Haven't noticed it after exiting games though.

Mine has been solid. I found mine excellent quality. Especially compared with my old 750D. I disagree though I've tipped mine all over the place with a custom loop. It feels solid. No bending, creaking etc. Damn thing weighs a tonne.

I have done a lot to mine though. Removed HDD and cd drive cages. Custom plates at the back. HDD fitted in the rear of the case. Clear acrylic window.

It was expensive though and for that price there are a few parts that should be better. I'm thinking about the same case labs for my next build in a year or two. They are damn expensive though.
