i want to replace my corsair a50 fan, but not the heatsink part. only problem is, i can't remove the fan. it wont budge, and i don't want to damage the heatsink fins otherwise that'll be useless too. any ideas?

It should come off with something prying the clips out a bit, should only unclip one side at a time of course.

Even if you bend the heatsink fins slightly at the front where the clips are, they will bend back, I doubt you will though just rip the buggar off. :)

My Accelero vga cooler came with 30 or so bent fins, nothing that knife can't fix

It's designed to just be ripped off and clipped back on.

If you say so :)

Can i replace it with a case fan that is mounted by screws, and can the fan be mounted onto that plastic thing that clips it to the heatsink, or don't have to use a different method ton connect it? I can't remember any more...

You should be able to re-use those anti vibration fan mounts that are on the plastic shroud. Otherwise you can mount the fan with cable ties.

I've just secured a fan to the bottom of my second case with 3M double sided tape. xD

just unclip the one side and it will come away. you can then pull the fan off and the rubber mounts will just pop out. i had a apache 120mm pwm fan on my corsair and its a great silent setup

i used to have a A50 with a apache 120mm and i whole heatedly recommend that setup for great silent cooling.

if you wanted a bit more power and can live with the colour

anything below 10db is pretty much out of human hearing range and both the apaches go down to 6.9

that setup makes for a silent pc but also keeps temps under 70c on my 2500k at 4.4ghz

they are both pwm so it will only spin up when needed.
