hey guys,

im looking to quieten my PC down, so been looking at these two PSU's from corsair.

so whats the quietest PSU out of the AX and RM?
the RM1000w is 149.99
and the AX860w is 159.99

so an extra 240w for £10 cheaper (not bothered about efficiency

also are the corsair cable bundles compatible with the RM PSU's?
i would like a higher wattage PSU so the fan dose not have to come on a lot

thanks

I am using Evga psu, NEX 750G '80+ gold' full modular.
There are stronger ones as well and they are haswell compatible (except the 1500w model).
I never heard my PSU fan. And it doesn't mean I have loud fans in case.
Best PSU I ever had.

Out of the two mentioned the AX 860 is considerably better quality, being a Seasonic unit, whilst the RM 1000 is a CWT. There's a reason the lower wattage unit is more expensive.

These are also good choices with equivalent quality to the AX 860. The Antec is a Delta which is just as good if not better than Seasonic.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Seasonic 860w '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply £179.99
1 x Antec High Current Pro 850W Modular '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply £161.99

Aren't those Antec Units Seasonic?

The AXi - the digital PSU's are dire. Not used them myself but a well known world record breaking overclocking guru told me that they are crap.

The RM1000 has a zero RPM fan mode up to 400W load then 10dB up to 700W. See here

The AX860 has a zero RPM fan mode up to ~500W then increases in noise fairly fast. See here

I'm very pleased with my RM650.

Corsair RM - CWT OEM

Not all, the 750w and 850w are Chicony Power Technology.

That's not quite true, only the AX 760 and AX 860 are Seasonic now. The rest of the AX series aren't Seasonic and none of the AXi series are either.

There are only the 760 and 860 now. They discontinued the rest and seeing what Corsair has done with the rest of it's psu's, expect these to disappear or be replaced by a cheaper OEM soon.
