Im thinking of getting this psu. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-107-CS

The ax 860 rather than the 860i. Its made by seasonic its a reasonable price, fully modular platinum certified. Only thing its missing over the 860i is the corsair link cable to change fan speeds etc. Plus the 860i is made by flextronics and seasonic are better? though the reviews i read seem to think they come close in efficiency, but the 860 is cheaper...
Had some problem with my rig recently and my coolermaster realpower 850 is getting on a bit and i dont think it was a brilliant psu to begin with!
Any reason not to get the corsair AX860?

One reason not to get it is the EVGA gold rated 850 PSU which is £109.99 and is made by Superflower with a 10 year warranty.

cheers, nice to know i can get replac3ement cables if i lose them! think ill go for the corsair, ill order the next time my gfx card crashes in a video - if the tweaks i tried don't work... whether or not my gpu is the prime culprit this time i'm starting to become convinced that my current psu is killing stuff!

Black screen crashes? Was it since you fitted your R9 290 by any chance?

I had same issues with AX860 and the R9 290 series, I went through 3 RMA's (290 twice and a 290x) before I gave up and got an Nvidea 780 that just plain worked lol.

yeah since i fited the 290, never had any issues with my 6950, no black screens, mostly it just bsods! The other day i got what can only be described as a psod (pink screen of death) when watching a full screen youtube vid the sound was still there and it disapeared when i exited full screen, then it started artifacting on the desktop and i kept getting those driver crashed and recovered messages until i shut it down. once i also got some real bad frame rates in games (like 30 fps on low in crysis 3) until i reset then it went back up to the usual 40-60 on ultra! Its so intermittent atm though i cant really rma it! bsoded maybe 4-5 times in videos, got the psod once and the dodgy fps issue once! So yeah whether or not i have to replace my gfx card i'm also getting a new psu, because other than my 6950 i haven't had much luck with gpus since i built this pc 5 years ago and begining to think my psu is the culprit, some guy on another forum said he had similar issues then replaced the psu and they went away - there was also a few software tweaks in the same thread i tried, hopefully they work!

The 290's I had were really intermittent too, first one was black screen/fuzzy screening in games, second one would crash in youtube vids lol. OCUK were really good with the RMA though, turned it around pretty fast.

I just bought a 1000 watt Superflower coming from a Corsair AX850. Only had the PSU a year and it blew. Bought a Superflower and so far it works like a dream and is super quiet.
