Corsair Commander Core for Phanteks case fans?

Hi all,

The three OEM PWM fans on my Pahanteks Evolv X case are currently connected to fan headers on my mobo. I really don’t like the Gigabyte software though, and I can’t seem to get ‘fan stop’ to work (I don’t want the case fans running when I’m just doing desktop tasks!). At the moment I am using a manual all fans off profile when I’m not gaming and then setting ‘standard’ or ‘performance’ when gaming.

I have a Corsair Commander Core for my H150i installed. I’m thinking of connecting my case fans to free ports on this so I can set a profile in iCue which seems much more intuitive/user friendly, and hopefully I can get the case fans to stop automatically when the system is cooler.

Does this sound like a good idea?

Thanks.

Update: I just connected one of my case fans (rear exhaust) to the Corsair Commander Core to test, I noticed my case fans only have 3 pin connectors though, if I recall a 4th pin would be PWM? So maybe my case fans are not PWM, the Gigabyte software can control their RPM though.

The case fan shows up in iCue ok, iCue can’t seem to control it’s RPM though, it runs at full speed.

Any advice appreciated!

UPDATE 2: Further reading and I see that 3 pin (non-PWN) fans can indeed have their speed controlled by controlling the voltage on pin 2 - which is what the mobo does. Can the Corsair Commander Core do this too? Or will I have to get some PWM case fans to be able to do this?

You shouldn't have the need to use the Commander Pro to control the fan speed, unless you are in need of extra fan ports

Check the motherboard BIOS setting on the fan mode - if it is 3 PIN it should be set to DC rather than PWM

(Also might be excuse to get a 4 pin PWM fan)
