Hi guys

been offered 8 gb ,2 x 4 gb sticks already got 2 x 2gb sticks the ram is same speed and timing.would this be okay to put in my pc and have 12 gb in total or just use the 8 gb motherboard is a Asus Maximus extreme iv
thanks

If it's the same spec: voltage(?), timings and frequency - then in theory you shouldn't have any issues.

The reality is that, sometimes, filling all 4 slots can be problematic - but this isn't such a problem on modern motherboards - p67 in particular.

If your system is heavily clocked(?) filling all 4 slots may have a slight impact - but again the p67 chipset is pretty resiliant.

The worse case scenario is you only run 8Gb - which i suspect will be more than sufficient for your needs - but fitting the 12Gb shouldn't be an issue if voltages/seettings are the same.

Idealy they should be the same size, however i used 3x1Gb + 3x2Gb in my X58 setup and all worked perfectly fine. Though the RAM wasn't overclocked much at all, so can't comment on whether it will affect an overclock.
