Hey, First post on this forum, so don't flame :D been an OcUK shopper for quite a good few years now, one of the last things I've bought from you guys was this bundle:

Asus Maximus Formula SE mobo
Intel Core2Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping (@ stock 2.4Ghz)
2GB Corsair Dominator PC2-8500 1066Mhz..

I also bought an BFG 8800GT OC2 & an Antec 1200 Case.

I've recently bought another 2GB of the same memory, when I put the memory in together my system won't boot. I've tried both 2gig sets together and both work fine, but when I put them in together... boomph, nothing.

  • The memory I have is both Corsair Dominator CM2X1024-8500C5D memory though 2GB is 2.10v ver 4.1 and the other 2GB is 2.20v ver2.1, would this be an issue?
  • I'm running my CPU @ stock settings too, with a stock cooler, could this be a problem?
  • If I was to start OCing with my current hardware, how far could I go on the stock cooler safely, so that my computer will run nicer but will not be unstable?
  • I'm about to order a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme, would this be a good idea for air cooling+OCing? (Ive heard it's one of the best) and how much more of an OC could I get whilst still staying stable on air?

My main priority is getting my system up and running with stable settings and the 4GB of memory for gaming, I'm not overly bothered about OCing at the moment.

If somebody could basically tell me which settings to change, I've added bios pics to show which settings are at what at the moment (as I said, all default)

Even if it's a simple answer to tell me which timings/fsb/ratios to change everything to, to get things working that would be great.

** Remember: I only have 2Gb in at the moment, I've got 4GB to use.

Ok at a hardware level, some Mobo Bioses have a setting for Memory Remap (should be all set up by auto but may not be).

Also adding more ram may need 0.1v increase to your Northbridge and possibly 0.1v increase to Memory.

Finally Vista needs to be SP1 to work with 4GB properly, some cannot even get it to install without BSOD if 4GB is fitted, they remove 2GB, install Vista, update to SP1, then pop back in the extra 2GB.

Is SP1 all released and stable now? I wasn't too sure about updating to it.. if it is I'll do that now, shouldn't effect anything else would it?

SP1 is ancient, SP2 is near ready for Public (April 2009) but some inc myself will have it months before that.

Vista is a major ballsup without SP1.

I don't know what your asking in last part, but SP1 FIXES a multitude of Vista issues but not enough and nor will SP2.

The Vista fix is Vista SE (Second Edition) and that's called Windows 7. :)

Damn, I'm so behind the times lol, I didn't exactly have a *caugh caugh* ---> (sore throat) of windows because I was too lazy to .. *caugh*.., i'll upgrade to SP1 now and that might sort out some other issues with games and stuff.

Any other ideas, after I upgrade to SP1 if it doesn't solve the issue?

??

Did you just downright admit the fact that you.... ahhh nevermind. :p

Too lazy to buy it, I lol'ed.

put the voltage up to 2.2 on all sticks, seems to be running alright @ 1066 :D

if anybody else has problems with anything to do with this board, I strongly advise checking out the asus forums, no offense to you guys at all as you've all been pretty helpful, just seems more people with the same problems on the asus board and a solution was easy to find :)

I have the same Memory if its the 4GB kit with Cooler (I never use cooler and have 2 kits).

I am now at 500FSB (2000QP) with 8GB of Memory @ 1000mhz (1:1) 5:5:5:15 @2.0v

NB=1.2v (Default is 1.1v), SB1=1.1v (default) & SB2=1.5v (default)
