Hello to you all, first post so I'll try not to be an annoying noob :D

Just got my first gaming PC from OC and so far so good. However my question as you might have guessed is regarding the GS600 it came with. Now I know they are temperature/load reactive so won't spin unless needed, and from what I've read most people hardly hear them spin at all, however mine has an annoying habbit of spinning up then stopping within say 10 seconds, and is quite loud when it does so. This is fine when gaming, but when watching films or just browsing etc it's quite annoying.

If it's just a trait of this PSU then fine, I can either deal with it or look to change, but would like to know whether what I'm getting is normal. I've taken a quick vid to demonstrate:

I hope I've followed forum rules and made sense!

Thanks in advance, Orch.

I'm glad you said that, I didn't think so either. Looks like it is trying to engage for a while, then gives it beans for a short burst and stops again. Does this over and over, never stays on, just short bursts. The bursts are more regular when the system is being used heavily, as you'd expect.

I've come across this on heatsinks as well. The fan doesn't start on boot, just twitches. Obviously the heat builds up and then the fan suddenly kicks into overdrive to cool the CPU, making quite a racket in the process. Once spinning it's fine and will eventually settle down until the next restart and then back to the twitching issue.

I'd be looking to send it back bud.

I owned that at first as well..
But it just doesnt have a nice review and I literally RMA it back and went for something nicer like Seasonic... (But no LED though)

I sent my GS700 back under RMA last year due to the racket it was making and got an XFX XXX 850W instead. Mine was silent at low usage (obviously) and was quiet when the fan was running but the transition point was insanely loud and corresponded with the load for most of the time I was using it. I looked on the Corsair forums and there were a number of people with the same problem so it will probably be worthwhile you doing the same.

I think the only plus point that GS700W is selling at would be there LEDs...

Thanks for all your input, really appreciated. Will definitely look to send it back, it's spoiling my enjoyment of my new system.

I don't get any of that, mine fires up when first turn the machine on, then fan stops and stays stopped until I fire up a game and I never notice the PSU fan even start up. Saying that my graphics cards get quite vocal once warmed up.

Had a response from the good guys at OC within an hour confirming it's not normal and they are happy to refund or replace. Greatv service it has to be said.

After reading about all the other problems people have had with these units I'm reluctant to swap for another, what else would people recommend for s similar budget? 600w minimum.

I'm glad you said that! Because that's what I have already ordered! The Coole Master Silent Pro Modular. Money is a little tight so couldn't spend much more at the moment. My set up is fairly modest anyway (must update sig!)

Again thanks for your help, great forum this
