Hiya,

Looking at buying a new CPU cooler.

Preferably a H50/60/70 (haven't decided my budget yet).

I was wondering how long they will support the latest CPU sockets for?
It says (Socket LGA775/1155/1156/1366/AM2/AM3), which are current.
But how about in say 5 years time when a whole new generation of CPUs are out?

£50+ is a lot of money to spend on a cooler. It would be annoying if they only work on the current CPU sockets, and not later after I've upgraded.

Is it a future proof investment?!

Cheers :)

let me ask intel to look into their crystal ball and see what dimensions of their current socket in 5 years will be, then ill ask corsair if they have contacted intel in five years time to see if they will be supported - give me a little while and ill come back to you with a concrete answer on that ;)

you think that a 50 quid cpu cooler is an "investment" - really? is 50 quid that significant over a 5 year period?

ill give you my honest opinion: dont bother buying one of these coolers, buy a decent air cooler for your current/next rig and save yourself the headache of thinking that a cpu cooler is a "futureproof investment" ;)

When a new CPU comes out quite often the existing brackets will still secure the HS onto the new chip/socket.

If it doesn't, 'if the market is there', the manufacturer will develope an additional bracket to support the new socket which you can buy at an additional cost.

Corsair have very good aftercare support and have sold 10000's of units of the H series, so support should be pretty good for the next few years (especially if it generates them a healthy revenue.)

No guarantees of course - but past bracket updates to other HS would indicate this to be the case.
