Hi all, I got a Corsair H50 CPU water cooler when I purchased my bundle and while fitting I noticed it had a thick grey paste already applied to the base.
I was wondering if anyone had cleaned this off and used a far better quality paste and had better temps ????

I think it's Shin Etsu stuff, should be fairly decent and not require any curing time, but I'm sure that a better after market paste would outperform it, possibly by a few degrees.

Curiosity has now got the better of me and think I`ll try something better quality and see what happens:)

re:

Hello all, just a heads up :)

I basically changed the paste on te H50 cooler for some MX3 and to be honest the temperature went up about 5 degrees

I also tried some akasa 455 and that was around the same temp

I would suggest anyone who has one of these H50 coolers to stick with the standard paste what comes with it, whatever that may be  it seems to do a great job!

Cheers all

You probably just put too much on.

Try cleaning it off and reseating it with only a tiny blob of paste in the centre.

I did think I had put too much on but tried another 2 times and still no difference.

re:

unless if comes with a tube of the paste?

The past already comes attached to the bottom with a plastic cover protecting it.
The is no additional paste.

Makes me think an email maybe in order to find out what paste it is they are using?

cheers

H50 + MX3, yes the thermal paste that's applied on the H50 is very good, but had a tube of MX3 and used it on my H50. Got about a 2 degree drop in temp's over the standard paste, which has got to be worth it > Cooler the Better

BigBruiserAl > can confirm the stock paste on these is very good and not worth the 2c drop from mx3 etc.

How much did you apply and was your H50 seated properly + tightn'd down correctly?

Used MX3 on afew build's + H50 never had no problem's at all.

the pre-applied thermal paste >Shin-Etsu (googled it)

While i agree the cooler the better you need to take into acount removing the old paste apply the new paste correcly and in the right amount (which for some people is not as easy as it sounds) if far more of a chew on for 2c drop which i can raise by just farting in my room :p;)

Nice one m8, for me agood old indian curry work's + washed down with good couple of pint's of real ale for me ;)

IMAO > all this talk about food making me hungry, its an indian's for me tonight, washed down by some real ale .

The thermalpaste is Shin-Estu it is possible you did not have a thick enough layer you may want to try reapplying another time before purchasing the Shin-Estu as you may have similar results.

Not enough paste?
Strange thing though, when you get the cooler out the box the whole bottom is covered in a layer of fairly thick paste:confused:
