Corsair H80 fan speed problem

I'm running my refurbished H80 with two Corsair SP120 fans. When ever the PC is turned on/restart/awakes from sleep the fans get stuck at full speed and the button on the CPU block doesn't change the fan speed.

The only solution so far is to reset the firmware by pressing and holding the cooler button in, the pump restarts then the fan speed is correct.

Anyone else had this issue or have any ideas?

Cheers

If its in its 30 day warrentt I think you get with the refurbiched then send it back for a
replacement sounds like the unit is on its way out.

Have you tried updating the firmware though I have heard you can do this with some of
them but I dont know how true it is.

Double check in the bios first that the speed control for the fan header you're using is totally disabled, or at least set to PWM. They need the full 12V from the start.

You have the SP120s connected to the pump right? Do you also see the same behavior when using the stock fans? or it only happens with the SP120s? If it's happening on both stock fans and SPs, chances are, it's the fan controller on the pump not saving/loading the fan profile you selected last and just gets stuck at performance profile coming from a cold boot/sleep.

If those SP120s are PWM (4pin), then try to connect them directly to your mobo fan headers and enable smart fan feature in the BIOS - this could be a work around.

btw, do you know that lot # on that cooler?

Hi greybeard. Only have the SP120's now, the stock fans were donated to a friends build. The two fans are 3pin connected to pump unit directly.

Greybeard, I have the original box, where can I find the lot number.

Ah I see.. Since they are the 3pin SPs, I believe that version is not ideal to work with the fan controller on the non"i" coolers, they don't play well in terms of following the fan curve. btw, has this been the case? or something that started recently?

I could try replacing those with the SP120 PWM fans, just let me know if you want to take that route.

Lot # is typically on the UPC code. "1135..."

I think the upc code is 12429406, this was a refurbished unit bought from ocuk. Not 100% if this has always been the case or not but I've only just noticed it so can't imagine it's always been this loud after a cold start. Will check my fans again to confirm they are indeed 3 pin not pwm and will report back. What would be involved to swap the fans?

Cheers

Go ahead and submit a ticket @ Corsair.force.com, then give me the ticket # so we can have those fans swapped out for some PWMs.

Apologies for the thread revival, have been using a different CPU cooler for the last few months but the H80 is about t go into a my 2nd machine so would like to get the fans sorted.

Ticket submitted and details sent in trust.
