Corsair H80

I am planning to buy a corsair h80 soon, i heard its a quite a high performance cooler.
Will use it on a non or slightly overclocked Phenom 2 X6 1100t, the quiestion I am asking , is it possible to add in another block for cooling my north bridge ( my motherboard is gigabyte 890fxa-ud7 , came with a block ).

I suspect it would be able support both, but i dont know if it worth trying to open the closed system and adding in extra pipes

It would be powerful enough to support both but realistically its just not worth modding a closed cooler. You'll void your warranty and it wont be anywhere near as good as a custom loop.

If you really want to watercool I advise saving up at least £150 and buy one of the kits. Much better bang for buck and you could expand it in later life.

That for example is ridiculously cheap right now would easily cool your cpu and nb and a fair amount more.

thank you for the info, I have caved in and ordered one as it seems corsair has released a lot of refurbished ones. picked one up for 38£, which is cheap.

cool, nice guide.
I think I will do some testing and later might try to mod it.
supposedly it is extremely good in cooling terms, not so much in the noise.
I have a gigabyte 6950 2GB modded to 6970 in a coolermaster HAF X case so it is an extremely noisy rig anyway

Its defiantly a huge step above basic air cooling and goes toe to toe with the top end air coolers with less noise.

I had a 6950 sounded like a jet engine under load

I just bought a h100I and it's good. Not quite the temps I got with my xspc kit from ocuk but that xspc 750 res/pump combo is absolutely dire. The noise that thing makes is unbelievable. You can hear the vibration from the pump through the ceiling downstairs!

The 750 is a horrible little pump

Some of them are really quiet but it really seems to be luck of the draw.

If they had cheaper versions of the D5 or introduced a ddc version of the kits they'd be perfect.

the idle temps gone down from mid thirties to 19 celsius
under load it is never over 34 !
i used a bit of engineering to mount it and the pipes are definitely stiff.
AMD mounting is a bit fiddly but when you get the hang of it its a doddle
