The Corsair HG10 appears to be filtering through to reviewers now.

I'd been interested in this, as it appeared to offer a similar solution to the NZXT G10, whilst also solving the problem of VRM cooling as it keeps part of the reference cooler.

Unfortunately whilst it does cool the GPU more efficiently, taking the heat out of the case through a rad, VRMs still get to ridiculous temperatures (120c+). Apparently this is because the GPU is kept relatively cool so the fan doesn't ramp up.

I'm guessing this could possibly be solved by controlling the fan speed manually in afterburner or similar, though they didn't mention it in the review I read.

Any thoughts on this cooler? I was hoping it could prove a decent solution for 290x Crossfire.

Avoid it, but a small bracket that costs £6 and use the change to buy a better AIO to bolt onto the card.

This method of using AIO all started from a $7 Dwood bracket and now bigger places are charging a fortune for similar stuff.

I got 2 kits on the way to me soon, just need to borrow a second R9 290 for a crossfire review as well :p

I assume you are referring to the Hexus review? Their review was pretty bad to be honest- a few guys on OCN replicated their testing methodology and got nowhere near what they got. I wonder if (a) a terribly bad mount which points to why multiple mounts are needed for reviewing a cooler or (b) they didn't take off the plastic film off the VRM thermal pads.

Remember the R9 290/290x has a VRM near the end of the card as well, very far away from the blower. That is covered by the big metal thing holding it together, but I don't think it will really convey heat from that far away all the way to the blower, not without heatpipes.. That might explain the crazy VRM temperatures.

On all other cards the solution should work just fine.

This is in stock now and I think it looks cool. I also think its brilliant it uses the stock fan. Better than the NZXT. Its got good reviews too.
However it badly needs a cowel to cover the big whole/empty space at the connector end.
If I was in the market for one I would buy it. However I did the tie wrap method on my gtx580 so its a bit old hat for me now.

Corsair HG10 Cooler £29.99

How on earth does that abomination look cool? It looks gash as hell. People were doing this years ago using part of the stock cooler and a universal block and didn't have to pay £30 to make their card look crap because you could do it for free.
