I've got a very old build I'm looking to update, one of the components I might be able to re use is the PSU. It was well reviewed at the time so think the build quality must have been pretty good, but am I asking for trouble given it's age? Specs below.

The Corsair HX620W/HX520W power supply is versatile and robust. Utilizing superior triple +12V power rails and a whisper quiet double ball-bearing 120mm fan, the HX620W/HX520W is ready for today’s most power hungry components. The HX620W/HX520W conforms to the latest ATX12V 2.2/EPS12V 2.91 and RoHS standards, and delivers unparalleled continuous power to all of your critical system components reliably and safely. Corsair’s easily detachable and flexible modular cables allow you to use only the cables you need and enhance the air flow inside your system. The HX620W/HX520W is backed with a Limited 5-Year Warranty and Corsair’s legendary customer service.

It will probably be fine to use, 480W on the +12V when new, so it probably has enough guts for your typical mid range rig.

What spec were you thinking of using it with? If your budget allows it might be worth just replacing it anyway and slinging it in a cupboard as a spare. :)

I'm still using a Corsair 520w with an overclocked i7 and RX480. It's around 10 years old, but still silent and cool running.

Best PSU I've ever owned. I had a newish Seasonic in before, but took it out due to coil whine (already got RMAed once). The build quality of some recent PSUs just isn't what it used to be IMO.

I've not had much luck with Corsair HX Series PSU's. 100% Failure rate in fact. My 520 lasted 3 years & its RMA replacement 650 lasted for 2. Having said that Corsairs RMA replacement procedure was good, no idea if its good now.

I've had an HX520W running pretty much 24/7 for the last ten years or so, sitting in the bottom chamber of an Antec P182 and powering several systems, the latest of which is a Skylake 6700 build. I wasn't sure if it supported enhanced C-states (Corsair's support page never got past listing it as "likely compatible — currently validating"), but I left everything as default in the BIOS and haven't run into any issues.

I think the Antec case might have helped it's longevity, keeping it relatively free from dust and heat - the P180/182 was groundbreaking for its time, when most other enclosures simply mounted PSUs at the top sucking hot air directly from the CPU area, which can't have done them much good over the long term (I will however say that however much I still love the P182 it's an absolute **** to work inside).

The HX520 was/is a quality piece of kit, but having said all that, I suppose sod's law will now come into play and I'll wake up tomorrow to find a dead PSU and a fried motherboard.

I'm running a HX520 in my main rig, bought shortly after launch.

It ran like a champ through a phase of Athlon to Phenom unlocking and overclocking, with various 24 hour stress tests at what must have been close to the maximum rated loads (according to PSU calculators - think Prime Blend and 3DMark both looped etc).

It's been having a much easier life in recent years.
