It says im supposed to get the link cable with this power supply but there isnt one in the bag, have I got an uncomplete power supply, returned power supply or is the manual wrong ?

New alternative, im a dumbass and it must have snagged on one of the cables as I was removing them one by one and dropped on the floor lol.

I could even hear the noise whilst doing the windows experience index thing when it was doing the GPU phase but when I had installed windows on my old SSD before changing power supplies just to see if it was completely knackered I done the index and didnt hear a thing.

Noise has only started occurring after changing power supplies so I can only assume its down to that.
 
I removed the side from my case again but this time unplugged the fan so the only operational fans were the CPU ones, the noise can be faintly heard from the beginning but around 8 seconds is where the World of Tanks replay file I clicked on loaded the game up.

There is definitely a faint version of what you hear but only really becomes audible from a distance when you run a game.

Should I be worried ?

Its not coming from the fan, according to the software the fan has not come on yet ever.

Seems to become audible from distance when a game starts up and draws more power from it.

So I guess it depends if you can live with it. I'd try and get a replacement. I wouldn't be happy paying £115-20 for a psu that makes an audible buzz under load.

Indeed, its just a massive pain in the ass though as it took me ages to make an attempt at cable management only to fail but leave me with a bad backache lol.

Would have to have to rewire for a few days then repeat when I get another one, or do they send one out and you send it back in the same box because that would be great.

Corsair do an advanced RMA service. Give them card details, replacement is sent, then you have x days to return the faulty one or they charge the card. Corsair have a UK address now, it cost me around £10 to send mine. Turn around time was a week (I didn't use the advanced service).

Being only 2 weeks old, you could go through retailer instead, but you would lose the advanced RMA option and who knows if they would consider that noise a fault.

Good to know, if it annoys me too much ill contact Corsair. First time ive ever heard this noise coming from a Power Supply just by starting a game up lol.

I do have quite sensitive hearing and a partially medium to high pitched buzzing is noticeable when you start a game up but maybe after a while I can drown it out.

Also next time im going to restart the computer ill unscrew the PSU and move it outside my case and give it a quick test just to make sure even though I am 100% sure it is the power supply as I dont see it being anything else after the only change in my system being the actual power supply in the past 3 years lol.

Wish I had read the comments on the 850i now, both complain about coil whine. I may indeed send it back for RMA.
Will I have to pack up all the cables as well or just ship off the PSU if I go down the RMA route.

Definitely the PSU, if you look on those screenshots as soon as the "HX750I 12V A" goes over "11.00" you start the hear the noise.

I dont have a clue what all the boxes mean but I assume the V and A refers to Volts and Amps, if correct I dont know how they relate to each other.

Love the Corsair Link Software btw, making me realize how much money ive been wasting on buying high wattage power supplies, never seen it get near 300 watts yet lol.

Yeah, the V and A refer to volts and amps. It's just showing you the main voltage rails (12, 5 & 3.3V) and the current being drawn from them. So in your case, it whines when you pull more than 11A from the 12V rail.

The other stuff on that page is just is just power in from the wall and power out + efficiency.


As for RMA. You have to send it all back, psu and cables. Although cables are cables, so if you went with the advanced one, you could just swap out the psu. And then return the faulty one with the cables that came with the replacement, rather than dig them out of your system.

Decided to try another power lead + second surge protector (Plugged into separate socket in wall) and still the same, I have also solidified my 100% conclusion that it is the actual Power Supply making this noise.

My PSU is at the bottom of the case, GPU half way down my case so when camera goes down its being moved towards the PSU and you can hear it a lot clearer.

Even hear it playing Star Trek Online which doesnt even take up half my GPU Power + Memory (MSI 670GTX Power Edition, 2GB), as soon as GPU starts drawing power you start to hear it whilst sitting down.

Ill give it a week to see if I can deal with it but if it starts to drive me absolutely batty is RMA with Corsair my only option ?

I got it from OCUK but I am just worried about getting another PSU with the same issue and it maybe being worse and end up forking out half of what I paid for it in shipping the damn thing back over and over lol.

Only noise I have ever had has been fan noise in my PC's and they barely go over 50% so this new noise whatever it is that this PSU is making is really ******* annoying, even more annoying than my tinnitus.

Would be nice if I could get someone to come along with half a dozen so I can play pass the parcel with PSU's til I find one that doesnt scream at me whilst I play games lol.

This is my first corsair PSU in quite a while as I had skipped them on the last two builds and so far im not too impressed but hey you can't get everything right first try.

Got a message back saying since it was purchased less than 30 days ago to contact store I purchased it from, what is OC's stance on this type of thing with power supplies.
 
Ok now im angry, ive just undone all the cable tidying I done ready for the mornings RMA and plugged my old power supply back in only to hear the same damn noise when I start a game up.

System was running fine, not 1 noise apart from my case / cpu fans for 3 years then I put a new PSU in and WHAM within 1 hour I go from a nice quiet system to this.

Now I dont know what the hell to do, there is still a noise coming from the PSU but I now know its not just that.

Is RMA a waste of time now ?

Why was it all quiet when I moved the mic up to the GPU and then noisy when I went back to the PSU ?
 
Well considering latest developments I felt it best to cancel the RMA and try to deal with it as long as possible, I dont know why after 3 years it started happening straight after I changed Power Supply but I hope it isnt going to just up and fail on me.
