My existing PSU has died fractal design 860 Newton. It did last a decade.

Thinking of future proofing and therefore thinking a higher powered psu but would like a quiet psu to fit in a fractal design r6 case. I was looking at the corsair Hx1500i or the thor 1200w mainly because of the noise and these are at the higher end of the price range I wish to go. Any thoughts? happy to consider other recommendations. Perhaps the asus strix-aura 1200w but I cannot find any of these.

The Strix Aura looks a tad overpriced for a gold atx 3.0 PSU when you can buy something like the A1000G PCIE5 for £160, though I haven't seen any reviews of it (aura) yet. The original Strix was based on the Seasonic Focus, so maybe this is a modified Vertex.

I know what you mean a re strix but it seemed like a quiet atx 3 psu form its graphs at least to 700-800w. Is 1000w enough for the future?

What are the specs of the pc it has to power?
A little old. Mainly a video editing machine currently Ryzen 3900x graphics p2000 , driving about 30tb of drives. Of course in the future these will be upgraded; looking into neural networks and Ai.

I was initially debating going for a new atx 3.0 power supply but due to lack of choice and availability ended up with an AX1600i.

It can be had very cheaply and with the 600w connector (sold separately) you’ll be set for ages.

It’s also a proven unit and will run fabless 99% of the time.

Yes very happy with it, got a full set of cablemod cables on it, my case is the corsair 700d airflow all cables fit perfectly.
Thx for reply, been debating getting the thor 2 for a month or more, had good reviews and i have watched plenty of videos about it, so you changed all the cables for cablemod ? or you mean thats what the thor 2 comes with, cheers, oh i will be using it with a 4090fe and 13900k.
