Hello

Over the past few days I have been sat with the lovely feeling and very aesthetically pleasing Corsair K60 Hybrid Mechaninical keyboard.

Heres a few pics of the Keyboard wired up to the PC showing off the tactile keys provided as part of the product.

The above to images show the keyboard in full with alternative keys installed. This however is not how the keyboard comes, shipping as standard with the generic key set pre-installed.

Above you can see the keys with the raised sides to aid with locating keys during a heated gaming session.

The above two images show the keys located in the wrist rest below the WASD keys with the key puller removed and one of the keys removed showing the Cherry Red key switch below.

Above you have your media controls. These are very basic only offering volume and the usual playback keys.

The above images the cable. This is very thick (approx 8mm) and braided as both the USB power cable and USB data cable are contained within this.

After using the keyboard there are 2 issues that stick out for me.

Firstly there is the fact that the entire top row of keys from the esc key along the whole top of the keyboard and the insert/delete keys etc are rubber dome or membrane keys. For a £100 product this is poor as the user can find themselves feeling dissapointed after the joys of typing on the lovely cherry red switches!

The other let down is the tactile gaming keys.. with these not being flat with eleevated sides typing becomes near impossible. They are brilliant for gaming but typing they are not. Switching to the generic keys solves this issue and doesnt effect gaming in the slightest however the wrist rest does need removing for fluid and comfortable typing otherwise you can feel yourself starting to ache from the added stretching you find your fingers need in order to type successfully. This leads you to think that these tactile keys that Corsair provide as standard that could reduce the cost of the product if they were not included are a pointless addition. The same can be said for the wrist rest as the annoyance involved with removing it to type started to grate after the 3rd or 4th time.

Comparing the keyboard to say the Logitech G19 which has a similar price tag is unfair and pointless as the two products are leagues aprt in their own ways. The G19 has the addition of the marco keys, a back lit keyboard and a 2" LCD that can be programmed to provide just about any in game information that you require. The K60 lacks these features but the Cherry red switches make up for this as the keyboard feels far more precise and much easier to game on.

The Aluminium finish on the K60 is superb leaving the keyboard feeling like a very high quality product. My major gripe is that you can purchase a keyboard from Ozone or Qpad for less, that has 100% of its keys set on Cherry mechanical switches and with a build quality that is on par with the Corsair unit. Corsair are relying on their name to sell this product over the products quality however Corsair have managed to create a very good bit of kit that may be a little over priced for what it is however there is no denying that this is a very nice keyboard compared to the majority of the makret. Only a handful of 100% mechanical keyboards can better this for both price and quality but these are few and far between.

Cherry® MX Red key switches are the best of the best — they provide the sensitivity and low operating force that professional gamers love. Reaction times are ulra-fast and responsive for quicker double and triple taps. The action is predictable and linear unlike lesser gaming keyboards that have a tactile bump or the annoying click of a typist’s keyboard.
The Vengeance K60 is designed to give you complete control even during the most intense action. The contoured, textured WASD and #1-6 keys are soft to the touch and without slip so you can focus on the game without needing to look down to find the right controls. An extra set of standard typing keycaps and a keycap replacement tool are provided for general typing.
Our expertly designed anti-ghosting technology provides flawless control even when you're pressing multiple keys at once. The K60 has individual switches with dedicated diodes for each switch so every key press results in an input and is 100% ghost free without tradeoff or compromise.
Typical USB gaming keyboards are limited to the USB standard six-key rollover. The K60 features increased performance with a 20-key rollover implementation on USB at a blazing fast 1ms (1000 reports per second) reporting rate.
The comfortable yet rugged design is ideal for single player or LAN party gaming and provides increased durability and stability when compared those that are primarily plastic. The stiff suspension chassis and the laser etched keys are made for durability so they won’t degrade over time.

My review was better!

I'm after a new KB, Are these worth the £100 tag? Do they come in Black?

How much for the reviewed model :p.

Would love one but to expensive

The big advantage of this is that it has dedicated volume buttons and media controls, but with some of the keys being membrane it's a bit disappointing. Other mechanical keyboards are short on features but better quality, this seems to add some useful features but drop quality. I'd also like to see a choice of Cherry MX switch, the red isn't for everyone I should think.

A good effort by Corsair though.
