Corsair K70 keyboard - glitching out?

Morning OcUK,

I'm on my second K70 from Corsair, after the first failed and they replaced it under warranty. Now this one is behaving strangely:

  • In games, inputs will stick, whilst the keys physically don't - i.e. I release A or D, yet the character will keep on moving that direction until I double tap the key again (single tap doesn't stop it).
  • Shift key remains on, even though the key is not depressed.
  • Randomly it will not input something, like whilst typing this, it misses space bars, letters etc.
  • Num pad keys sometimes input multiple values - say I press 7, it'll input two or three 7s
I've gone into Device Management, uninstalled the keyboard drivers and then let Windows update them.

Any other suggestions?

Does your version have a profile switch at the back? I have the original model and a few months ago certain keys stopped responding, requiring a restart to fix. I was ready to replace it (had it for 10 years) but simply switching to the BIOS profile solved it.
I had forgotten about those switches - just tried the BIOS one and unfortunately, still the same issues.

Did you manage to 'reset' the keyboard using their suggested method of unplugging it, holding down Esc and then plugging it back in whilst holding down Esc and then releasing after 5 seconds? Just tried it myself and the keys are supposed to flash, but nothing...

I didn't realise there was such a method, as mine is working ok I think I'll leave that until something goes awry. Silly question but was the PC on when you plugged it back in? Have you tried that with a different USB port?
It was indeed on (I assume it has to be in order for the lights to flash to confirm reset?).
Unfortunately already tried different USB ports.

It's such a substantial block of metal and plastic, it's a real shame that it may need to be chucked just because something has gone a little wrong with the software.

That would feel a waste, true. Have you tried to see whether it occurs in the BIOS, such as when typing the name of a profile?

It's surprising because my example has lasted years and been through several spillages etc, very robust.
It's really hard to tell as it's not consistent, so I'd have to be in the BIOS for a long time typing away for it to be really noticeable. The main test I have for it is in games, where they register movement and the character won't stop moving until I double tap the impacted key.

I've contacted Corsair as the K70 reset their website suggests doesn't work...hopefully they can sort something!

Had this exact same issue on my Corsair K100 and I even rma's mine to corsair only to experience the same issue on the new one. After some troubleshooting turns out it was a bad usb driver causing it for me. Reinstallation of the motherboard drivers fixed it for me at least.
Thank you for this Karlos - may I ask how you found out what USB driver it was that was causing it, or did you conclude that as a result of reinstalling the mobo drivers rather than having tracked down a specific driver?
