Corsair K70 problem - Keys randomly stop working

Back in June I bought a Corsair K70 Cherry Red Switch (non-RGB) which was on offer from here, this one - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-009-CS.

It was my first ever mech keyboard, replacing the legendary Microsoft Sidewinder X4 which worked flawlessly for years. Initially I was very impressed, Cherry Reds feel great and are very responsive, good lighting, the volume wheel is very useful and it generally looks good.

However, over the past couple of weeks I've noticed some of the keys randomly stop responding for a while for no apparent reason. I first encountered it while playing League of Legends, when my E and D buttons (two very important buttons in LoL!) stopped working mid-game. After the game I did a test and found that F3, 3, E, D, X (these are pretty much in a line down the board), and also number 4 over on the number pad, weren't working. The keys eventually started working again after a few minutes. Fast forward to today and it's still happening, often many times during the day.

As I type right now, every single key seems to be working fine, but the problem flares up nearly everyday and is very annoying. I've had a look online and found no fixes. I've tried Firmware updates but no effect.

At the moment I'm slightly wary of RMA'ing it incase they can't replicate the fault during testing. Was just wondering if there's anything else I can try, either to fix it or just to verify the problem?

Cheers

I had a similar problem with my Roccat Isku and it was replaced under RMA with no issues at all, ended up getting rid of the keyboard for a mechanical though - Best decision yet. I think they said keyboards tend to have a link between columns of keys, and if there's an issue with say, F3, that'll replicate down the link to 3, E, D, and X. I don't know if this is true with mechanical keyboards but apparently, you are getting a similar issue.

Companies tend to spend a lot of time testing stuff if the fault isn't instantly visible - If they say it's not broken, insist that it is - make them test it more and the fault will soon appear.

However, have you tried different USB slots, front panel connectors, etc?

That's a bit reassuring, thanks :)

Yeah I've tried a few slots. When the keys stop working I tend to disconnect the board and reconnect it, usually to a random port since I have a few spare, never tried the front panel one though. I'll give that a go next time it happens.

Well it went a few days without playing up but now it's doing it again (I'm having to copy & paste a few letters to write this). Looks like I'll be sending it back. First time I've ever had to RMA anything so I guess it was a good run.

Glad I kept my Sidewinder board as a backup!
