I have my old rig which I gave to my other half so she can play WoW and generally let me use my new machine in peice.

Sadly, it appears the RAM has snuffed it with is 2GB of PC3500LL Pro RAM. I realise Corsair run a lifetime warranty, but what are the chances of them entertaining an RMA and what am I likely to get in return?

Has anyone else sent back out of date hardware?

Wee lifetime warrnty so Im guessing as they know it's their product they will have to accept the RMA.

As for what you will get back, not even the foggiest I wonder if they have a stock of their last version DDR :/

Then again I do remember even some of the big names releasing budget DDr towards the end of it's life, don't think they could give you budget carp back if you RMA hq ram.

Wait I forgot... they WILL honour it. I was going to RMA my ram to corsair (3500LL PRO) when I thought it was broken about 6 months back.

They said they would do it no problem, had it all ready to send until I found out I could solve my problem by resetting the CMOS :).

Cool. I've done all that. I reset my clocks to standard, resetting the CMOS each time but with both sticks i get errors in memtest. Single sticks may also produce errors but I only allowed for 2 passes or so.

I can install an OS fine but in use I windows processes randomly stop responding and update errors which relate to dodgy RAM in most online queries on them. Looking forward to what I get back from them!

Shouldn't be a problem? :)

I just RMA'ed a 2GB PC3200 Platinum kit to them and waiting for the new sticks back!

I just sold another working set of the same memory for £55.00 inc, got snapped up within 24 hours! . . .

We'll replace it however, I can't say with what exact module as that is up to Customer Service. The modules you have are long discontinued so we'll have to replace them with something more current.

It's very nice stuff, got 2 sets here (3200 and 4000), Good clockable RAM, premium brand and lifetime warranty.

What do Corsair need for warranty returns just the unit serials?
Might actually sell some of this and want to make sure Im giving the correct info.

By more current do you mean DDR2? IIRC the 3500LL was at the top of Corsairs line up at the time, wouldnt be fair if they gave him some value rubbish

Hmm thats good to know, I didn't consider you may have actually run out of platinum stuff, kinda thought you had a Platinum Goose that laid them! :D

Hey Defcon5 I don't think you have to worry about Corsair taking good care of their customers! :)

Agreed!

They just need the memory, normally you need to communicate with their tech-support what the problem is and what trouble-shooting you have performed and then you get an RMA number and instructions via email.

I've been slow coming round to Corsair (similar to how I was slow coming round to ASUS) but having used a fair bit of their kit I am impressed. When they released their first PSU's I thought "uh oh!" but when I eventually got one I was amazed how good they were! Up to that point Corsair had been strictly a Memory manufacturer so I saw they had a knack with hardware!

I wasnt meaning they would intentionall stitch him up, but if most of the decont lines have been discontinued, they they may not have anything of equal merit to give him

Well I wouldn't worry yourself too much, I have that kit above RMA'ed with Corsair as we speak and had assumed they would replace like with like until Yellowbeard made his post above!

I'm not worried at all, its very cool indeed that they would help me out with a product bought from them 5 years ago and I wouldn't want to rub them up the wrong way, I'm sure one way or another I will get a satisfactory result.

Also bare in mind Companies like Corsair could change their Lifetime Warranties into Limited Lifetime Warranties so that when the product eventually goes EOL thats it!

That's why we say "Please" and "Thank You" and hope for the best, positive outlook all the way!

I had some of that 3500LL back in the day. Gave the impression of great quality. Somehow none of the RAM I've had since ever felt the same as Corsair - which is why I bought some more Corsair the other month :P

Corsair are extremely good for support and RMAs.

The only gotcha is the postage cost for RMAing it.

The last time I sent something back it had to go to the USA, now at least it's only the Netherlands, but it's still quite pricey to send stuff back.

If you reckon your RAM is worth £20 then £15 to send it back might not be that clever.

Dear Wayne,

RMA number ******** has now been shipped by UPS Express Saver. Your UPS tracking number is *************. Our records show the following information on the return:

RMA number: *******
Corsair Product: TWINX2048-3200C2PT G
Quantity Returned: 1

Return Address:
London UK

That's not to bad, raised RMA 8th August, shipped off to their Netherlands office costing £5.01 (International Signed For), they received it on the 17th August and sent the replacements one week later. I guess they took a week to handle this because its old memory?

Not familiar with this product code: TWINX2048-3200C2PT G

What's the G at the end for?

I've just recieved a response after them having the RAM for a week (very busy aparently).

They are offering me a TWINX2048-3200C2PT G kit as above. I had my 3500s clocked to get my Opteron 165 to 2.6GHz but looking around the kit offered doesn't clock too well. Should I just snap their hand off? I appreciate DDR is redundant now but i can't afford an upgrade for this machine but its unusable at stock clocks.

I actually found my invoice for the 3500 kit. I paid over £200! Crazy times.

Well, I think you have to look at it like this;

1. You bought DDR PC3500. They are offering you DDR PC3200, which is inferior.

2. Your system is currently dead. The PC3200 stuff would ressurect it.

3. You have three options;

A. Take their offer and run your PC at a lower level of performnace than you paid for.

B. Decline their offer and look at a blank screen.

C. Contact Yellowbeard and very politely make it plain to him that when you bought the RAM you didn't think that a company like Corsair would offer inferior products to customers sending stuff back under warranty and that you'd be very unlikely to buy any more 'performance' stuff from them because they cannot or will not honour the warranty on it. And then every time a Corsair thread comes up, jump in and make sure that EVERYONE knows that Corsair's warranty is ESS AITCH ONE-TEE and they should buy from a competitor.

Personally, I'd go with option C and I think Yellowbeard will sort you out with something.
