Corsair Link 4.0 User Review
This will be a user review on the new Corsair Link 4.0 software for use with Corsairs digital PSU's such as the AXi, HXi and RMi series as well as the Corsair AIO range that feature link connectivity.
Getting Corsair Link up and running is quite a simple painless procedure, Simply connect your PSU/AIO with the included USB cable to your motherboards internal USB header, Install Corsair Link and you are done, A 2 minute process.
Upon launch of Corsair Link 4.0 you are greeted with quite a stylish homepage showing a good number of options for you to tinker with including stats of your CPU temps, GPU temps and fan speeds.
Before delving into the plethora of options it's a good idea to setup your monitoring stats for your motherboard, CPU, GPU, SSD etc... on the right hand side of the app by clicking
the configure button on the right hand side and checking the little boxes either on or off for the things you do or do not want to monitor, This will come in handy in the Configure tab later on.
PSU Monitoring and Customization
One of the first options for you to select on your Corsair Link enabled device will either be your PSU or AIO, In my case it's the PSU as that's what I have connected.
Upon selecting your Corsair Link enabled device from the home tab you are greeted with a configuration and statistics page, Well laid out and informative, Giving you information on power used, Fan speed,
An OCP protection setting and various voltages.
Clicking on the fan icon on the same page, You are greeted with an option to have either a fixed fan speed or have it on auto, Renaming it and setting current fan RPM, Setting it to to auto
which I personally recommend as these PSU's are so efficient they only get warm under really heavy loads hence the fan doesn't really need to be on 24/7 so silent operation is an option here.
Upon selecting the notifications tab of the same popup box you will see various options for setting fan speed to 100%, Shutting down your PC after a specified amount of time,
Triggering all RGB LED's etc... but I think this would be an area more suited to power users than everyday users in my opinion as it's not something I really used in my testing but it's good to know it's there.
With the PSU tab still open the graph is quite a useful feature being able to tell you exactly how much juice you are pulling from the wall during gaming, Benchmarking or even when at
idle including current temperature and fan speed %, Also good at settling arguments as to who is using up all the electricity
And here you can see it in action using Unigine Valley with a 5930K and 980 Ti -
Temperature Status and Customization
Next we have the configuration page, Quite a useful monitoring tool for temperatures, Here you can place temp sensor icons onto various spots where they would actually be
inside your case by dragging the icons from the left hand side of the app onto various spots on the picture of the case.
One of the neat little features is being able to change the background picture of the configuration tab so it matches your actual Corsair case or even load in your own image that you have
taken with a camera, Something I'm sure Corsair will keep up to date as and when Corsair release more cases.
Profiles
Next on the list is the profile tab, Although this is only really useable with the link enabled AIO's it is pretty self explanatory with the options it gives i.e Performance, Slient
and balanced which change the fan and pump speeds.
Options Menu
The next tab is the options menu which gives you several options for you to change from changing the displayed temperature measurement, Language, Startup with windows, Text
colour, Accent colour and for a little more customization to match your rigs colour theme you can also change the skin colour of the app, In my case I have a white and black theme
going on but you can choose from a vast array of colours as well as from 3 different skin types, Dark, Light 1 and Light 2.
Pretty nice options as well as being able to check which link enabled devices you have connected, The ability to check for updated software and even direct links
to Corsairs support, Corsairs homepage and even Corsairs Facebook where you can get the latest info about Corsair products and announcements.
Graphing
The last option along the top is the graph which simply hides or unhides the temperatures and fan speed graph on the right hand side of the app if you want a more clean looking interface.
Conclusion
All in all I've found Corsair Link 4.0 to be really light weight, A really good step up from the older Corsair Link software which to me felt clunky where as this feels a lot more refined as well as looking pretty snazzy.
Performance wise you are looking at a minuscule footprint, The app in total takes up less than 1% of your CPU's processing power and a tiny 110MB of ram.
After using Corsairs new software I'm quite looking forward to see what they do with it in the future
