Hi all,

My case is Corsair's Obsidian 800D and I've this morning received my first SSD (Crucial M4 128gb).

My question is is it ok to plug the drive into the hot swappable drive bays in the case as I've just been reading around a bit and some people are saying that they are limited to SATA II operation.

Is this correct or misinformed information.

Thanks

You can buy sata 3 upgrade kits for the 800D hot swap bays. I just keep both ssd's in the bottom or behind the motherboard tray.

Re-read my post, I never said they wouldn't work, I said without being throttled to SATA2 speeds. I have had 2 800D and still got one and both Vertex 3 and Agility 3 were dropped to sata2 transfer speeds. Hence, Corsair released a SATA6 plate for $9

I actually sent an e-mail complaining to Corsair about their lack of consideration to include this when they knew SATA6 was due, and they sent me one for free, always worth complaining hehe

He's not saying it didn't work, but if you do not purchase the upgrade plate, then you are limited to Sata2 speeds, in which case you may as well own a Sata2 SSD.

Depends when you bought your 800D, the earliest ones like mine needed both the upgrades SATA3 and USB3 but one of my friends had the SATA3 board already fitted when he got his 800D.

I disagree with this.

Mine is an early 800D long before Corsair thought of upgrading the connectors. It works perfectly FINE at 6Gb/s.

Perhaps the OP should just try the hot swap bays and test if he is getting over 3Gb/s speeds, you've got nothing to loose.

Just put the drive in a hot plug bay and test your speeds. If you find you are limited to Sata 2 speeds then you may want to replace the parts. If not... just plug and play!
