Ram prices still too expensive considering I bought my tri channel for £79.99 then all of a sudden that exact same tri channel is now £149.99

what has caused these massive inflated prices?

I agree insane prices. Due to over-production.

China bought all the silicone. China used all the silicone. Or to some sort of similar extent anyhoo ... prices went up as silicone is in low quantities atm.

Those are interesting prices, I have some incredibly similar to the middle pair sitting in my drawers doing nothing, didn't know they were that expensive :o

I bought my DD3 G.SKill Ripjaw ram for £80, now if i goto the cheapest shop/website that sells them its £162............thats doubled!

There are number of reasons RAM is high in price compared to two years ago.

The key reasons are

1. GBP to USD exchange rate is poor now
2. Silicone is not overstocked, and limited so raw costs gone up
3. The memory manufacturers at one point were not making any money, and in some cases actually making a loss. All the raw memory suppliers were competing for business. From what our suppliers have said is that the major memory vendors have all given gentlemens hand shakes to not trash down the pricing.

There are other factors but these are the main ones.

No great surprise there then, some of the prices we saw did seem crazy i mean a lot of people were saying cant see any difference with 8gb but just upgrading as it was so cheap.......

I can believe they were not making any cash.... Shame though be nice to see 6gb kits around the £100 mark but that may not happen again..

It will eventually its the stock of silicone that looks the main problem. The handshake is temporary while stock is low, they can't afford to sell at a loss.

When Silicone is over produced and it eventually will prices will slowly then start to crawl down till x people get greedy and sell loads for a near loss and then other companys have to sell at a loss just to compete and then its a vicious circle.

Although with the exchange rate, if its the same at the time prices come down it won't be down quite as much as it was early last year and the year before but still will come down a lot.

patience is a virtue I guess, I say DDR3 is too overpriced to make an upgrade from a decent high end DDR2 platform better of upgrading what you can rather than making an AM3/i3/i5/i7 upgrade.
