*edit sorry cooler master 620w not corsair

I want to replace the fan in my cooler master* psu as it's the most noisy fan in the case by a mile. I've got a spare akasa apache 120mm fan - am I ok replacing the internal fan with this? Does it need to be wired to the PSU - I saw a video on youtube that said it didn't get enough power going to the headers in the psu so it's best to wire it in separately.

However.. I guess the psu may not start if it doesn't detect a fan or am I over thinking it?

If your apache is anything like mine it won't start spinning until around 8v. Best to avoid using this or any pwm fan in a PSU really.

Personally i went with a much slower fan than the stock and the PSU is still going 4 or 5 years later, solid as a rock. I think the stock was 2700rpm and I use a 1500rpm. My risk though and I was careful to measure the output temperature early on to make sure it would stabilise.

Make sure you get a 3 pin fan with a proper bearing, not a sleeve bearing.
