Corsair PSU problems

Hi guys,

Was using my computer as usual, then all of a sudden, I got a BSOD. The computer restarted and then starts up again - but not fully. After 5 seconds, it powers down and then powers up but on each occasion, there's no signal. Am guessing its just a faulty PSU? I've disconnected everything except the mobo, RAM and graphics card.

My machine with the Corsair HX520 started doing this last night, the drives spin up along with the fans for about 1 second then die - no onscreen POST.

It just repeats this endlessly every few seconds until I kill the power.

I've borrowed the PSU from an Antec Sonata case so hopefully that will let me prove if its the PSU or the mobo - could be either.

I'll see if the PSU from the Antec will do the job tonight - if not I'll be bangin me head against a wall waiting for the RMA to come thru as my laptop won't play LOTRO.

Ok - the Antec PSU was no help at all, it doesn't have the correct output lines to drive my DS3 mobo. I'm going to see if I can RMA the board and the PSU and if OC won't authorise that, then I'll do the PSU first.

Hope you have better luck.

I have since purchased a PSU tester and it has confirmed that the fault is with one of the +12v lines on the main 24pin connector on the PSU.

Corsair have asked that I send it to them in the States, but I've contacted OC to see if they will RMA it for me - don't fancy courier rates to North America to be honest.

OK thanks. Just created an RMA. Don't fancy shipping it to the states but I guess I have to :(

Do you just have to post the PSU without all the cables?

I'm still waiting to hear from Oc to see if they will step in and replace it for me. In any case, it needs to go back complete.

Just remember that you may not have the same fault as sidethink. I also had exactly the same symptoms as you and sidethink however mine turned out to be a compatibility issue with RAM.

Indeed - check your fault before you request RMA.

Anyway, I'm happy as OC have stepped in and covered the item, saving me the cost of shipping it back to the States. It'll be going in the post tomorrow and hopefully, I'll be back up and running by midweek.

Had the computer for awhile now and I've tried using one stick so it cannot be the RAM. Unless both are duff which is highly unlikely. Plus, the machine doesn't even POST.

Just came back from the post office and they want £35 to ship it!

Wow corsair don't have a uk division did not know
that will not be buying any of their products in the future
for that reason alone hope my hx520 doesn't go wrong.

Which is exactly what happened to me. Trying with 1 stick or 2 and swapping around, my PC didn't reach POST stage. I eventually managed to get it to post and had to flash the bios to the latest revision to fix my problem.

My PSU is 4 months old (and has the usual 5 year warranty). I really can't praise OcUK highly enough - I kind of expect high levels of service on good quality merchandise and they haven't let me down.

Triggerthat - I bought a PSU tester from a well known high street electronics store for £20 that has isolated the fault for me. And a bonus - a mate just plopped a Coolermaster 430w on my desk as a loaner for a week or so.

I'll be posting my HX520 to OcUK tomorrow and hopefully I'll have it back midweek.
