Corsair ram limiting AI7 / P4 2.4c o.c????

Help guys i'm puzzled. i have the following,
P4 2.4c
abit AI7
Corsair TwinX 1024-4400C25, 4x512mb

i can clock the fsb for the cpu up to 260 no problem, but only on a 3:2 divider, northbridge is locked at 800, pci/agp 33/66.

if i try and go to 5:4 Then i struggle getting anything over 250 stable.
1:1 is just a joke. I thought this memory should be able to run275 fsb no problem? so why does it seem to be the limiting factor.

DDRv have tried 2.7, 2.8, 2.9, 2.95 and 3.0v all without success.
timings are 3-4-4-8 (so pretty lose?)

Any ideas? is it because the NB is locked?

It might be due to you having 4 dimms? Try with only 2 and see if you have more success.

i'll try that tonight, thought of that this morning on the way to work but that will mean i have to sell the 4dimms and buy 2 1gb dimms, anyone want to buy some 512mb sticks?

took the other two dimms out, running 2x512mb now and all stable at 240 FSB @1.575v with 1:1 and 2.5:4:4:8 @2.75v
temps, case 32, cpu35 pwm 48

I own that mobo, it's sitting in its box at the moment while I play with A64's. I have a P4 2.8GHz in it that runs at 3.5GHz (14x250MHz-FSB) using default vCore (1.525v). While it would run the memory 1:1 @ 250MHz(DDR500) I noticed some weird tearing issues in 3D-Games and benchmarks (OpenGL?), looks very similar to the effect you get when your VGA memory is heaviliy overclocked, however the card was running stock.

After a bit of headscratching I switch the memory to 5:4 async so it would be running at 200MHz (DDR400) and sure enough everything was fine again. I did ask around to see what was the problem with the graphics while running a 1:1 sync and the best answer I got was from eva2000 who suggested that the i865PE (Springdale) northbridge was stressing too much and reacting badly to my memory (Ballistix PC3200). He also mentioned it was something to do with using double-sided/high-density 512MB sticks. He had the same system as me at the time and wasn't effected by this issue but he was using single-sided 256MB sticks (BH-5 I think?)

I modded my northbridge by adding the solid cooper thermalright NB-1c HSF just in case it was overheating. but that didn't help.

Running 4 seperate sticks should be possible but of course it will be tougher than running just two sticks. The only main disadvantage I know of by running 4xDIMMS is you won't be able to use PAT/GAT/FAT/CAT

so far so good

running 245fsb now, had to up voltage to 1.65v for stablility. 250 and onwards, hope to reach 275. thanks for the info. might add the waterblock for the northbridge too...
