I'm in the process of upgrading most of the internal components of my PC including the motherboard and PSU.

I bought an MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus motherboard and a Corsair RM750i PSU (and other things).

This motherboard needs a 24 pin ATX_PWR1 and an 8 pin CPU_PWR1 cable, which are supplied.

Additionally, the motherboard needs a 4 pin (2 x 2) CPU_PWR2 cable which is not supplied.

I tried powering up with just the two supplied cables and the fans started spinning but it doesn't boot.

So Corsair only supply two of the three required CPU power cables.

I wanted to check that this PSU is suitable for this motherboard and which additional cable I need to buy. Maybe the Akasa 4 pin to 8 pin ATX PSU adapter (Stock code: CB-063-AK)? But plug it in where, the only unused sockets on the PSU are 6 pin or PCIe?

Would appreciate some suggestions as to the right cable or PSU for the motherboard. Thanks

I would have thought it would come with 2x CPU AUX PWR cables as many mobos need 2x 8pins (4+4 Split) connections, was it an open box?

"the 8-pin CPU ATX power connector is at a great length of roughly 70 cm and the PCIe graphics connectors reach a lovely 75 cm as well. That is very nice!

Thanks replying.

The PSU wasn't sold as "open box".

The graphic you posted specifies only one 8 pin cable with the RM750i, which is supplied, and I'm using for the 8 pin CPU_PWR1.

Which leaves the 4 pin CPU_PWR2 without a power cable and unable to boot.

My mistaken assumption was that a relatively high end PSU would be able to satisfy a modern motherboard.

As to how to rescue the situation, I'm hoping not to have to replace the PSU.

Do you think the Akasa 4 pin to 8 pin ATX PSU adapter (Stock code: CB-063-AK) would work? Worth a few quid to find out?

Yes as I can boot with both mines not even plugged in, its under load and OC'd for 2nd one that you need those so I doubt it will cause any issue unlike some splitters can with the PCI-E leads to GPU.

I just find it strange that nay half decent PSU from the past good few years would not come with 2 of those 8pin (4+4).

I have the Corsair AX1600i but my previous 2 PSU's had them also (Enermax Infiniti 720w, then Enermax Revolution 85 1020w).

You only need the extra 4 pin cable if you are heavily overclocking a cpu such as the 5900 or 5950 otherwise the 8 pin is more than enough for 99% of builds. As for a lack of cables, at the end of the day it is down to you to make sure the psu has everything that you need and the cables supplied should be clearly stated in the description plus you can easily find what cables are included at the manufacturers website or in reviews. The Corsair AX750i is a older model that was launched before these multi EPS socket motherboards became the norm which would explain why the 650w and 750w only came with a single cable. I cannot find that psu for sale anywhere so it has probably been discontinued or is in the process of being upgraded to a newer version as Corsair has done with the majority of their other psu's.
