Hi,
Would appreciate any thoughts on this! Have recently moved to a Corsair 250D as I wanted a quieter and small form factor. Bought the Corsair RM750i as after installing Akasa PWM fans in to the case I noticed my old XFX psu was actually quite noisy.
Initial test just plugged in (nothing connected) and testing the fan was fine. Installed in to my machine and booted up and occasionally during general idle and browsing I get a very slight high-pitched noise but it doesn't last long and has been infrequent. Tested with Prime95 and the noise is more apparent but as the CPU heats up and the fans kick in it gets drowned out somewhat by the fan noise.
Attached sound clip - this was from about 8cm away. Distance for clarity of sound not expectation of silence.
My query is: How 'audible' does coil whine and other such psu noise need to be for an RMA? I guess as I've built my PC to be as quiet as possible I worry about it annoying me in the future but don't want to dismantle it and send it back if either there is a possibility of rejection or if some psu noise is actually to be expected (and I've just never heard it before as I've had a louder PC)?
Note: Didnt buy this PSU from OCUK so just after general advice here
Thanks!
