Corsair RMA?

Hi everyone,

Just a quick one really.

My computer hasnt been stable since I built it almost 2 months ago having the occasional bsod with memory_management being the error, I have fiddled with loads of settings in the bios to try and get this ram stable, stock settings no joy, upped the voltage slightly no joy, running at 1333mhz no joy. All still failing memtest so I think it must just be faulty.

Now I dont fancy having to send this ram off to corsair which I believe is in the Netherlands to be stuck without my system and possibly waiting weeks for a replacement. Just wondering would OcUK offer to RMA it instead or do I have to go direct to Corsair because its been over 28 days?

Im going to ring OcUK tomorrow anyway but just thought id ask on here.

Thanks, Sam

Have you isolateed the problem to one stick - i.e. memtested each stick independently?

The reason i ask is that the problem may be motherboard related (dodgy DIMM slot), or even the CPU's memory controller. This is unlikey - but it's best to rule it out before you go to the expence of an RMA as you will be billed £10 for testing and p&p if the memory proves to be OK (OcUK policy).

If the sticks are less than 12 months old, I am pretty certain you can insist that OcUK take responsibilty :

You can but if you're past the 'magic 28 days' they will, probably, send the memory to Corsair themselves and then return the replacemnets once they've received them back from Corsair (long winded process). I'm not sure they will just swap out the memory after their 28 day mark has passed as it's possible they may not have stock etc...

I think OcUK advise you to return the sticks directly to Corsair as it will mean less of a delay - probably approx 7 days less.

Try a post in the Customer Services Forum and see what they say and confrim if they will return it to Corsair and await replacement before returning them to you? If they do i expect it will be preferable to rma straight to Corsair to speed up the process.

I have found Corsair RMA to be useless. I have been waiting over 3 weeks for a response regarding a cooler issue. I have even trusted yellowbeard but nothing. Not a huge problem as I will never buy anything from them again.

I can't comment on their general enquiry responses - but i've always found their rma process for PSUs and memory to be very good (exceptional compared to some other companies - ASUS being the worst). Especially considering that they're based in the Netherlands.

My last PSU rma only took 10 days - my only gripe was that they didn;t update me to let me know it was being returned.

Are you asking a general enquiry or trying to rma?

Its an enquiry potentially leading to an RMA (I was advised to do this after posting on their forums). Not that it should make any difference.

I have RMA'd/sent emails to loads of companies in the past (Antec, Crucial, MSI, OCZ, Hiper, Kingston, Cooler Master, Edimax etc etc ) and I have never had a correspondence ignored. I even mailed Tenda in China last week and got a response within 4 hours.

I find it completely unacceptable, also why cant they follow Antecs route and use a 3rd party company in the UK to handle returns?

Edit: Reading that back it sounds like I am ranting and to be fair I have not really contributed to the OPs issue. Sorry

Spoke to OcUK today and they have advised me I can send it to them but all they will do is send it onto corsair so I will be waiting as long for a replacement.

When I got in tonight I tried running memtest (HCI in windows) with only 1 stick installed and it failed, then tried the other stick and it failed also.

I have tried all my ram slots on the motherboard with the same results, tried running at Corsair's recommended settings and the same still happens, tried lowering to 1333mhz @ 1.5v and the same.

Could this really mean both sticks are faulty (i find this hard to believe) or does it point towards my motherboard?

Try refitting the CPU cooler, or just loosen the securing screws a touch, as putting it on too tightly can warp the motherboard.

If you do remove the cooler see if you have any damaged pins in the CPU socket.

Surely this would cause more issues than just memory problems though, I would have thought bsod messages would be much more random instead of just memory_management and my system would be a lot more unstable?

Also worth saying I didnt fit the heatsink overly tight either.

Maybe, but you seem to be running out of options other than deciding both sticks of your RAM are faulty.

I would have thought it worth 5 minutes of your time to try loosening the cooler a touch or, if you want to invest a little more time, checking the CPU socket pins.

I recently had to deal with faulty corsair vengence LP memory and I sent it back to the retailer (not OcUK) and they tested it, confirmed it was faulty and just sent out another. This was memory I bought back in August.

Me too, my first Corsair Vengeance High profile was (one stick) was faulty, and the retailer gave me a refund. I bought the same memory but different colour and it has been working for nearly a month now.

Yep, for us European customers.

Sorry to hear about the PSU failure, what model was it BTW?

TX 750. Bought it from here on October 2008 so still under warranty.

Going to have to replace it then flog the RMA replacement when I get it back. Right pain in the backside.
