I've been getting strange errors when downloading stuff when the DL stops saying theres an error in the RAM. SO I ran the memtest for windows and in the first 3% it threw over 32 errors ...

System
8800 gts320mb
p5n-3 sli
e6300 1.86ghz @ 2.30ghz
2x2gb xms2 xtreme performance
windows xp

I remember something like this happening with another system I had and I was told that the mobo defaults the voltage to the wrong setting. What should I set it too to check if this is the case?

Thanks

what voltage are you running the ram at? stock ram needs 1.8v, so thats the default but performance ram usually needs more (about 2.1v is good)

try increasing the mem voltage from 1.8 to 2.1 (your bios might not say the mem voltage, in which case you need +0.3) and see if the errors continue.

<edit>
i notice you've overclocked your CPU. did you change the FSB:RAM divider in order to keep it at the same speed? if not you've probably overclocked the RAM too, which is another possible cause for your errors.

I oc'd the cpu but used unlinked so it didn't affect the ram.

As for voltage I left it on auto, I'll try changing it to 2.1 now

I put the memory voltage to 2.085 which was the closes to 2.1 I could find.

memtest seems fine now for the first 40%.

Thanks for the help

on the first pass? because it repeats after, each pass takes like 15-30minutes or so depending on ram speed, id suggest going for 5-10 passes, so a good few hours.

BTW, anyone shed some light on this..

memtest runs for a minute, then PC turns off completely, is that usual for faulty memory or is it just suppose to say errors found?

If its an Asus board you are supposed to disable legacy USB. Recommended on corsair forums.
Very true!

TheBrooder, can you list your complete part number and all info from the stickers on your memory? The voltages for some parts vary and I can't give accurate info without knowing what specific memory you have.

It seems fine now thanks, I upped the volts a little and disabled the legacy USB option and everything is hunky dory for the moment
