Corsair XMS2 PC-6400 issues

Hi

I've recently upgraded to an asus P5W Deluxe board with an intel conroe E6600 in it.

The ram is corsair XMS2 PC-6400 ram, rated at CL4.
When I set the chip to its defaults, i.e. no overclocking and then force the ram to 800mhz, the machine falls over on boot.
This is whilst keeping the ram on AUTO SPD settings, so its not even running anywhere near the aggressive timings that the box/ram promises.

Is this indicative of faulty ram?
I've bought a new PSU from hiper that runs at 480W and I've done the maths so I doubt its a power issue.
One thing I have thought of though, could the board be supplying less voltage than the dimms need because of the AUTO setting for that feature?
Is it worth me finding out what voltage the ram is meant to run at and just plain setting it at that value?

Aye i think mine is rated to the same 2.1V
The board is the asus P5W DH Deluxe one.

I've just been told by a mate that its possible that the AUTO function of the board I have will limit the voltage to the lowest value. If that is the case then I wouldnt be surprised if its under supplying the memory and causing the machine to shutdown on windows boot.

Seems a little retarded to me that ram that is specced to run at certain voltages and timings gets serverely chopped down by "defaults" encoded into the same chips.
 
Well the RAM does run out of spec voltage by DDR2 standards, so the board will give it in spec voltage :) Only real issue would be on a board that you could'nt change the values on :D
 
I thought on the XMS2 DIMMS, they are "rated" at 1.9V - but can "take" up to 2.1V without voiding warranty ?

I found my C5 ones unstable at the "auto" voltage (1.8V) - on my P5B - upped it to 1.85 and they are now fine.

i got the same ram running in a gigabyte ds3 /ds4 and on both the bios sets the ram at 1.8Volts wich is to low , but both set of mine starts up with no problems at all like a lot of orther people have both with the gigabyte and asus boards also running same PSU as that and is very good keeping you lines in specs
