Had my comp for a bit now and got myself some new corsair xms3 1333 (2x 2gb) to go with my old XMS3 2x2gb ram.
Well had it all working but had some other problems with the new SSD not been compatible with my mobo??? or something like that. (EVGA nForce 790i Ultra SLi3) and the H100 not working/fitting/breaking so just been running one stick of ram for while been problem solving.

Any way now I have found out it was the SSD making all the problems and now removed that from the system, and got windows 7 back working I went to put all the ram in and it does not seem to work with all 8gb and will only start up with only 2 sticks (2 new or 2 old) but not all 4
both types of ram are corsair xms3 with same timings and everything but I cannot work out why its no longer working when 4 days ago thay were.

It gets to the loading windows screen then restarts the comp. Pull out any 2 sticks and it works.

Quite sick of the comp now after spending £300 on new bits and non of them work :(

Just been doing some runs on mem test to try and find the problem.

bios set stock apart from 1.525v going to the mem.
I numberd all 4 sticks of ram, and then started with running the older ram 1st in slots 1 + 3 (gray) on the mobo.
number 1 in slot one + number 2 in slot three
Ran memtest and it showed over 200 errors and crashed @ 7% on 1st run.
Re ran same test and it failed and crashed @ 8% with 552 errors.

then ran
number 1 in slot one = pass
number 2 in slot one = pass
number 1 in slot two = pass

so seems nothing wrong with the ram or slots?
so ran
number 2 in slot one and 1 in slot three = pass

not got to the other slots yet or the new ram but what can make this happen?

To run 4 modules on that board you will need to raise your memory controller voltage as it comes stock tuned to run 2 modules. Also, when mixing 2 different kits of memory , you may not be able to get them stable. These boards are notoriously tempermental when mixing memory OR running 4 modules.

You may have better luck running them at a 1:1 ratio with the CPU and going for the DDR800 - DDR 1000 range.

Its stable at stock voltages and stock settings with all 4 stick if the sticks are the right way round. that is not the problem/Question.

The question is my older memery kit works in every slot solo, but only works one way round in DC mode,

Stick 1 in slot 1 + stick 2 in slot 3 = fail
Stick 2 in slot 1 + stick 1 in slot 3 = pass

Stick 1 in slot 2 + stick 2 in slot 4 = fail
Stick 2 in slot 2 + stick 1 in slot 4 = pass

stick 1 in slot 1/2/3/4 solo = pass
stick 2 in slot 1/2/3/4 solo = pass

Has any one ever seen anything like this before.
