Hi all,

Still chewing over the potential addition of a Mac to the PC family, but is it just me or does the macbook stick out like a sore thumb in a range of aesthitically beutifull products...the macbook (well at least the white one) just looks fugly to me.

What are your thoughts on this and whether it will get a facelift soon?

LIES! Mac Book's are sexeh!

I dont think the Mac Book will or needs its design to be updated any time soon. Even if it does it will essentially look the same. Apple has not changed the design that much over the years.

The rest of the macbooks look the muts nuts (I was even tempted to buy an Air when I saw one in the flesh despite inadequate specs for what I would need)...but the white macbook just looks cheap to me (and it seems the stepchild of the mac lineup which is otherwise visually stunning compared with PC equivalent).

I personally don't like the white MacBook, and if I had to get one I'd get a Black one.

However, the current design doesn't look like it's going anywhere soon, it was only introduced with the Intel transition, and the Apple keyboards are all designed from it.

If anything the MacBook Pro would be the one that is due for an update, but I think that's nice enough the way it is :o

The white Macbook is vastly better looking than 90% of Windows machines. I do agree it's not as nice as the others though, and I think the black and white macbooks should be available in all the specs, not white for 'low' and black for 'high'.

I agree EVH...the MBP looks amazing...I REALLY want one (trying very hard to resist due to the price...hence looking at the macbook range).

Depends what you mean by the current design, my old G3 iBook was the exact same design except for the keyboard. That's about 4-5 years ago.
Need to go back a while to find a different design in the clamshell one that was white + funky colours like bright orange and Lime Green.

Ok, point taken.

However, the keyboard re-design looks like it's here to stay (See: MacBook Air), so it's unlikely they'd change it much beyond the current design until the next chip platform arrives mid-year.

I don't think they will change it at all tbh. It is a nice plain and simple design which most people like.

Although they may put it in a titanium case like the air and mbp but i think i quite like the almost ruggedness of the white plastic tbh.

It is a bit less pompus, if that is possible for a mac lol

I disagree, according to articles I've read about the next chip platform (Montinevia 2), it is going to include a lot of on-die abilities that should allow Apple to remove components needed, thus reducing the physical size of the motherboard.

I also think Apple will want to keep the visual difference of the MacBook vs. MacBook Pro line, so adding a aluminum case (which I would like!) would only confuse Joe Public further.

I'll try to dig up the article, but I've also read an article saying that Apple didn't change the design of the MBP when they transitioned to Intel (which is pretty significant), and would be unlikely to do it for this.. I guess it depends on how Steve feels about the whole design when they're due for revision.

I'd like a change, but I see nothing obviously wrong about the designs, perhaps the option of a dark aluminum for the Pro range :D

I would like the blacks to be the same price as the whites. I am surprised they don't have the same colours available as they do on the iPod nano.

I think will will determine a cosmetic change will be sales figures. If the sales figures slow down, i think they will do a redesign to get people interested again, and MB owners to buy the new style ones. Maybe that is a bit cynical.

Those repainted ones do look cool I have to say! Had quite a bit of fun changing the colours on the website to see what it would look like.
