Thinking of picking up a Cosmos S to replace my Antec P180......question is will my Scythe Ninja fit in there, specifically whilst the 200mm side fan is in place ? Fancy a larger case.....but not sure what air cooler I could replace the Scythe with if it will not fit (and offers comparable preformance !)

Thanks in advance :)

The ninja isnt that big, so i'd expect it to fit into a whopper like the cosmos. I dont think the 200mm is that deep tbh.

better off without the fan, take a look at the official CM boards.. So many fans have broken they are releasing a fan guard to prevent damage to components.

TBH I havent noticed much difference in temps without the 200mm fan, the airflow is very good in this case (Although it does take a hit if you have 4 hdds in the drive bay)

Side panel fan of of Cosmos S seems to conflict with most tower heatsinks.
With more compact heatsinks some have managed to fit them by cutting frame of fan slightly but Ninja is so wide that it probably wouldn't work.

Official max heatsink height is 14,5cm:

Yeah saw that.. a lot of dremel action going on.. funny thing is that even their own CPU coolers dont fit the cosmos s (v8,v9 etc)..

It is a bit ridiculous. I don't know what ever happened to the fabled side panel revision either.

I'm just happy that my Noctua fitted in nicely without the need for any Dremmel action. (That's with the fan removed)

Yeah, was told that when the case was released that they were 90% sure there would be a revision, and that If you posted a pic of your case with your cpu cooler installed, you would be put on a list to recieve the new model.. That was february, their CS is terrible

Customer "service". Tell me about it. I'm missing the 24pin adaptor so have to turn the pc on at the motherboard every time. Annoying doesn't even cover it. It's good how they sell virtually everything you'd need in the parts shop besides that simple thing. Raaaaaah!

Hmm, great input guys, thanks......so the consensus appears that either I need to do without the 200mm fan or swap coolers ?

The case has great airflow as it is, without the 200mm fan. Not having that there is also peace of mind due to the number of reported problems. I'd just lose the fan and go with a good cpu cooler. I've stuck a couple of extra Noctua fans in there and despite it being a fairly open case with all the mesh etc. it's still very quiet and cool.

So is that fan 'issue' with these around the quality etc. of the supplied fan ? Would, therefore, replacing it with a different 200mm fan prevent the problems that occur ?

Any recommendations for a replacement CPU cooler (air !) that would offer comparable performance and allow fitting with the side fan installed ? Recognise I can possibly do without the side fan, but keen to explore all options :)

the problem with the fan is the distance between it and the sidepanel its attached to, Its so close to the sidepanel that whilst in operation the fan hits the back of the panel causing the blades to snap.
Most have broken whilst in use due to the panel either being opened or moved while the fan is rotating.. I think the fans that they are shipping with the newer cases have spacers between the side panel and the fan to help avoid this.
It doesnt help that the fans are pretty poor quality and are not made of a high grade plastic.

Having a similar spec to yourself these are the temps you can expect from the chassis without the fan.

Cool, thanks - look good :) So what cooler are you using there ? And what software gives those readings - looks good !

I have a Tuniq tower on the CPU and an Accellero Extreme on my 8800ultra..

the pic is from the multimeter sidebar gadget for vista :)

there is a 3.2ghz oc on the cpu so they would obviously be lower if ran at stock..

About not having a side fan in the Cosmos...

I noticed today that my side fan was broken and 2 blades fell off LOL. Anyway, I replaced it with a 120mm fan I had laying about and 1 of my gfx cards temp went from 67 to 59 degrees idle, CPU temps are lower too. So, in my case (case LOL) having a side fan in the cosmos is better than not having 1.

Hello!

I`m considering buying one of these early next year but i was wondering if the official company has fixed the side panel fan problem as yet, and if i bought one from OcUK, would it be the side panel fan fixed version?

Thank you for responding.;)

Had a quick look on the CM boards, It appears nothing has changed re the sidepanel. However if you bought one now, you will more than likely get the model with the revised front bay doors (magnets).

I've just had an email back from Coolermaster Support (Yes...they do sometimes respond) and they said they were sending out replacement fans and panels to people although they didn't have any left at this time and gave no indication as to when they'd get any more either. If anyone's having problems with that or looking to buy with the aim of getting a new panel then I wouldn't hold your breath....same with replacement fans.

The good news at least was they're going to send me out the adaptor for the case power button which was missing when I recieved the case. Nice!

Good to see you got a reply.. Wish they would make up their mind with the details they give customers though, I just had a chat with one of CM's NA staff who told me, that whille their R&D team had been working on a revised side panel, that he had not heard any more about it in the last few month's and that the best advice he could offer was that they could ship the clear plastic panel as a replacement.

They really need to get their stories straight...
