Hello peeps,

Been a while since I was on here but was 'hoping' I'd get some advise :)

I bought a watercooled rig (was too nervous to go it alone) which worked fine for a short while. I then had pump problems and had to replace the pump/res and didn't see it as difficult as I first thought. After saying that I'm disappointed with what I have (PC wise) and looks crap inside IMHO compared to what I have seen on here.

Sooooooooooo I was thinking of buying a new rig but then after 4-5 beers I decided that it was a waste of what I have here (which will most probably go in the bin/skip) and might as well try and do an upgrade. As the PC is a couple of years old I'm thinking its a big overhaul.

What I have is:
Case: CoolerMaster Cosmos Silent - thinking still use
Power Supply: 850 Watts - thinking still use
CPU: i7 930 2.80GHz LGA1366 c/w Delta CPU Block - thinking upgrading
WC 240m Rad c/w P/P fans 3 top 3 bottom, 750res Pump/Res - thinking still use
MOTHERBOARD: Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 - thinking upgrade
MEMORY: 6GB (3x2GB) PC12800 DDR3/1600mhz - thinking still use
VIDEO CARD: Water cooled Nvidia GTX 480 - thinking upgrade

Hard Drive 1: 64 GB Crucial C300 SSD - too small need to upgrade
Hard Drive 2: 1TB Samsung SATA-II 3.0Gb/s thinking still use
SOUND: Asus Xonar DS 24 PCI - thinking still use

I was thinking to change the items mentioned with:
Case: Really like the Carbide 500 but don't see what is wrong with the case I have
Motherboard: Asus P9X79 Pro
CPU: Intel Core i7-3820 3.60GHz
Video Card: Water cooled HD 7850
Hard Drive 1: Crucial RealSSD M4 256GB 2.5"

Will also be changing all the pipes and trying to make the inside of the PC look a bit more appealing :D

Got pics of what I have now to upload if you think it would help.

Oh and last time I built my own rig was 4 years ago with a LOT of help from you lot and it's still running strong. Will upgrade next but less important as my son uses it :p

Thanks in advance

I would change the CPU block to an EK Nickel acetal CSQ to match your graphics card, but this is purely for aesthetics.

Have you thought about going for black fluid and clear tubing instead? If you go for mayhems premixed fluids it'll be easier than using kill coils

Which pump do you have?

You may want to consider spending the extra money on a Rampage 4 mobo, great reviews, it's up to you whether you think it's worth the extra though :)

Thanks Cleeecooo! Good call on the CPU block i'll certainly change that as I am trying to make the set up more pleasing to the eye ;)

Got no problems changing to the clear tubing with black fluid, just thought black would be a good colour.

The old set up had the XSPC X20 750 dual bay pump/res. I was thinking of still using it but must admit I'm concerned whether there will still be too much heat as I see that a lot of rigs now have 2 or more radiators.

Will change the mobo too as it also looks more pleasing and after doing a bit of research agree that it's a better mobo.

Once again thanks for your input.

Cheers

Everything arrived yesterday (including the Harribo's) :D

Not totally happy with the fans I already have and when I started putting everything together I installed the motherboard but forgot to first put the 3 fans on below the radiator  . Space between the radiator and the motherboard is tight so will have to remove the motherboard again which convinced me to get new fans before I put the MB back in again.

Any idea if there are any thin 120 fans or are they all the same? Assuming they are the same for the housing to be able to house the fan blades.

Thanks in advance

Nearly there now! Couldn't get the MB in with fans above (just below the inside of the case) and below the rad as there wasn't enough room for one fan and no room at all to connect the 8 pin connector so removed the fans above the rad to give the extra room. I'm thinking of putting the fans on top of the case (which will still be under the plastic cover). Apart from the screws being too short to go through the fans, on top of the case, and in to the rad, can you see any other concerns there would be with this?

Cheers for any help
