LOL I just added an imac 27" with every upgrade possible.

Basket Subtotal £6,664.95
Free Delivery £0.00
VAT £1,333.00
Total £7,997.95

8 grand lol....

Although I suppose if you choose the upgrades wisely and upgrade some bits youself then you can get them for a decent price.

I did that to a Dell server once, I think the starting price was £10k and I managed to get it up to around ten times that.

Ahhh that old chestnut again. Im not going there again.

Crucial 32 Gb laptop ram £130
Apple 32Gb laptop ram £480

That is all.

Ah, for all those people that require 32GB ram.

My MBP (and my Windows desktop FWIW) are both running happily with 4GB.

Apple's opinion clearly is that if you're a high end enough user to need this, then you can afford it. Again, it's about value to the consumer. If a consumer wants an Apple laptop with that much RAM, they can have it but it will cost them.

That's good business. Nobody is forcing people to buy Apple products. Therefore those who do clearly see enough in the product they purchase, whether it's an iPhone as it's "cool", or a MBP with 32GB RAM, to make it worthwhile. For them, it is not overpriced.

You're looking at something as being overpriced purely with respect to how much it costs, not factoring in the value of the product to the person buying it.

Did you know that a pint of Coke costs about 8p to make? That makes their profit margins far higher than Apple's, but you don't complain as you compare it to other, similar drinks. If you want a pint of Coke badly enough you will buy it.

Companies do not succeed and fail because their profit margin is too high and people think the product is overpriced. Companies fail because they cannot show consumers that they will attain value for money at the costs being charged.

I also have a MBP with 512G SSD and 8G ram, cost me less than £1200. :D

You can have decent spec Apple products for a reasonable price if you do it wisely.

Well it simply is overpriced. It is not "apples opinion" it is not "high end enough users" it is "overpriced". But I am not going into that again so lets just agree to disagree. Even though it IS overpriced!!!

You have singularly failed to agree to disagree there.

We'll have none of this sensible nonsense here. This is a silly thread, for silly people!

I think looking at the current value of my MBP, combined with the fact that:
a) It was an i5 replacement for a broken C2D, with free AppleCare added on
b) I was eligible for HE discount at the time of purchase
c) I sold my "free" iPod Touch from the Back to School offer

I'm probably only about £200 down on what I paid for it. That was nearly 3 years ago. I think my coursemate's Dells and Lenovos are guaranteed to be worth less than both the value of my laptop, and less than half what they initially paid for.

Something's only worth what someone is willing to pay.
If they were "overpriced" then they wouldn't make sales.
There is a premium for apple computers but look at what u posted with tht much profit it can't be that overpriced or else no 1 would be buying them.

I have a galaxy note 2' iPad 4, gaming pc and imac pc is good but apple just works quiet hdd doesn't constantly spin. Less power usage. Less space no tower is a godsend with 2 kids cats and a dog.

And apple computers re-sell for a better price than a pc

Mine is the last gen C2D but still quite nippy for most things. I expect it will last another couple of years with SSD in now.

Aesthetic wise, it is still very modern looking and stylish. It doesn't look like a 3 year old laptop at all.

you can get pcs that are quiet/silent and that uses very little power.
I agree with what was said about the re-sell as apple products tend to keep their value for longer.

It is lucky for apple that you and other people share this logic. Clearly this is a large part of why they are so profitable. I can even agree with you with things such as form factor, styling, noise level and power usage... All things which people may decide an imac justifies the price and this is fair enough.... However memory is memory, it is not more or less valuable because it is in an apple mac, at least not according to my own logic.. Clearly some people do not think the same as me.

I said I can see the logic, not that I agree with it ;)

If I ever need a personal computer with that much memory, I'll be going for a Windows machine as the extra £300 isn't worth an Apple - for me. For some people it might be, though.

Also, I imagine that most people who need (actually need, rather than merely want) that amount of memory need it for work. If the demands of their job states that they need an MBP with 32GB RAM, then the company will pay for it as it will offer a return on investment, and again will therefore offer value.

Maybe this is why there are so many failing startup companies in digital media.... They spent all their money on 32gb macs with 768gb SSD.

I learnt some things about imacs and I learnt some people prefer mashed potatoes to roasted ones. So overall it has been educational for me.

It is probably quieter but it is not like a modern PC is even remotely loud if you build it for silence.

There is silence and then silence... Most modern PCs aren't silent, they are fairly noisy, just they are significantly quieter than the old one you built... Believe me, I've spent 6 years building computers as quiet as possible. The last one is completely silent (no fans at all) except when my storage drive powers up. It's more expensive than a standard computer of the same spec though.

I do wonder, if someone started a thread in motors with the title "spec me a small fast sports car", wanting something like a lotus Elise or mx5, would you go in a d spec them a ford escort with several modifications...?

Honest it has the same horsepower and electric windows, its just as powerful and has a better spec and half the price... But its significantly bigger and totally different handling... You would be laughed out the thread, just like you insisting a fairly noisy, large cased computer is the "same" as a quiet AIO because its just as powerful...

NirK, why do you even come to the Apple sub forum? It seems you have no interest in Apple except to try to tell people how they are all being ripped off.
