After scouring google i'm stumped...

How much would one Harrier Jump Jet cost, New, to the Navy/RAF?

My housemate seems to think it would be about £750,000 to £1m.

I laughed and said it must be nearer to something like £30m

He told me to prove it

32 Million from a discovery channel show i watched yesterday :)

How can he possibly think that something like that could cost as little as £750,000!? There are CARS which cost more than this

American harrier:
http://www.fas.org/man/gao/ns96049.htm

GAO found that the: (1) Navy estimates that it would cost between $23
million and $29.5 million to rebuild each AV-8B aircraft using
refurbished parts; (2) Marines could procure new AV-8B radar attack
aircraft for about $23.6 million each;

Ive a few websites bookmarked about the harrier, i will try and find them!

Is a Harrier jump jet like a Harrier GR9/9A?
LINK

Says that Harrier GR9/9A is an upgraded version of the Harrier GR7/7A. The total upgrade cost is about 7 million. So i'm guessing the aircraft itself is worth a lot more?
Total projected MoD expenditure on Harrier upgrades, which will be fully realised when the fleet of about 70 aircraft is at GR9 standard, is about £500 million.

/Aircraft noob

I like this quote:

An F/A-22 fighter jet costs $258 million, and 277 are on order. If 150 were ordered instead, that would leave an extra $33 billion in the budget. The estimated cost for permanently curing hunger and malnutrition worldwide is $21 billion.

Puts things into perspective, doesn't it...?

Yup just as you say the GR9 is a more "advanced" version shall we say.
The aircraft is quite expensive, it is used as an attack aircraft but as i have said it will be taken over by the F-35.

The harrier doesnt have afterburners, wonder is the f35 does?
