Hi all. Does anyone know of any good resources/websites that can offer a breakdown of a typical cost of living?

I'm looking to get a breakdown for a single guy living on his own (and not in London, say Warrington/St. Helens/Wigan area) but I'm not having much luck with Google searches. I need a breakdown of how much rent, council tax, food, utilities etc will typically cost.

If anyone on here fancies giving me a quick summary of their living costs that would be great too. I'm trying to find out a minimum salary I would need to have a decent standard of living :)

Cheers

I'm in Merseyside which isn't too far away, and my bills are something like this:
Rent £330 P/M
Council Tax £75 P/M
Water £10 P/M With a water meter, it was £35+ without
Gas £20 P/M in the summer to £50 P/M in winter with the heating on
Electric £30 P/M
TV Licence £10 odd P/M
Food £35 P/W approx.
Total £510 minimum.
My rent is quite cheap because I live in a former council flat that is now owned by a housing association. If your renting privately you may have to pay a bit more. Hope that helps.

Those prices are pretty much identical to mine! :)

I'd pretty much agree with DrewBrees, and I live in St Helens. I will add mine which account for having a larger property and a family:

Rent £385 P/M (3 bed semi in a decent area). Ex council, now HA. Private would be closer to £500p/m in the same area.

Council Tax £75 P/M - about right.

Water £25-30 P/M on a meter with 3 children.

Gas £45 P/M assuming credit meter and monthly DD payments.

Electric £35 P/M assuming credit meter and monthly DD payments.

TV Licence £11 odd P/M

Food £60 to £100 P/W approx (again bear in mind a family of 5).

Don't forget to factor in things like petrol/diesel, Virgin Media/Sky TV and internet, going out etc. It's between £1.80 and £2.50 a pint here on average. Hope this helps.

EDIT: Just noticed you're a Pie Eater, AND you support Liverpool. You may not like St Helens... lol :p
