Cost of overhauling a my bike?

I have a Specialized Hardrock 09 and it has been severely used and abused. I used it off road for the first couple of years and maintained it fairly well, but for the last couple I use it as my daily commuter. It only does ~4 miles a day but the killer is that it spends all day out in the rain at work as there is no cover. I’ve not replaced any parts on it since the day I bought it apart from the brake pads, so pretty much everything is in need of replacing.

Has anyone got any ideas on a rough ballpark figure for getting the following replaced AND fitted:
- Rear hub
- Bottom Bracket
- Sprocket
- Chainrings
- Chain
- Rear derailleur
- Front and rear gear cables
- Possibly front derailleur

I’m only after low end stuff to keep it ticking over, but I’m pretty sure that with the cost of the above I might be better off sacking it off and buying a new one.

The problem is that I might be moving work soon so may want a completely different type of bike to commute on, so I don't want to splash too much cash until I know for sure.

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like I've got something to buy myself for Christmas then! :D

It's a dilemma though as I want a nice simple single speed for my commute 90% of the time, but then I'd want a mountain bike for the other 10% when I go for a leisurely stroll off road with the missus. Don't think I'd want to take a nice SS down some of the dirt tracks around here. Need to do it all on a small budget as well :(

Hmmm, seems like something like this might fit the bill: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/vitus-bikes-vee-1-city-bike/rp-prod80999#. Shame about the crazily small sizing though. I might look like a bit of a clown on it at 6'2".

Do they not work?

Is your rear de-railer, rear hub acctually broke?

I bet the rear hub can be taken apart, cleaned and bearings replaced. I done mine for 60p. Cables aren't expensive. BB is about £20, less if bought from bike-discount. Chain is £10-15.
