Cost of running a keyboard

You're joking of course, I can tell. To analyse this more seriously, the actual big cost is power consumption. My keyboard uses 36mA @ 5V, or 0.18W. Assuming the keyboard is used 8 hours a day for 10 years, and the price per kWh is 25p, then that's (0.18 / 1000) * 25 * 8 * 365 * 10 = 131.4p!

Bear in mind that my keyboard is not backlit. A keyboard overstuffed with RGB bling could easily be an order of magnitude higher. It's even worse than that though! If we take PSU efficiency into account, then the real figure could be 10% higher.

I wonder if solar powered keyboards exist? They might save money in the long run.

Reminds me I need to swap out/replace my main keyboard for the Ducky I bought in the Black Friday sales so as to give it a deep clean - Ozone Strike mechanical ~10 years old and still runs like new but awhile since I properly cleaned it beyond surface wipe down.

The funniest part is that this is one of the less nutty posts from what I like to call the CKP (crazy keyboard people).
